Tanger’s 5-RBI Day Leads ELCO Past Octorara

Winners of four straight, ELCO entered Monday’s road game at Octorara looking to keep building its case for a spot in the District 3 Playoffs. The Raiders wasted little time taking control, using a 7-run 2nd and a 5-run 3rd to roll to a 15-1 win in 5 innings.

After a scoreless 1st, ELCO broke the game open in the 2nd. Tanner Hibshman drew a walk to force in the first run, Braden Gettle followed with an RBI single, Tyce Boyer walked to bring in another run, Queston Rivera singled home a run, Jonathan Zimmerman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Isaac Tanger capped the inning with a 2-run double to make it 7-0.

The Raiders kept the pressure on in the 3rd, scoring 5 more runs on 4 hits. Wyatt Parker doubled home 2 runs, Boyeradded an RBI single, and Tanger came through again with a 2-run single as ELCO stretched the lead to 12-0.

ELCO added 3 more runs in the 4th, giving the Raiders plenty of breathing room while their pitching and defense handled the rest. Austin Smith earned the win on the mound, allowing 1 hit over 3.0 scoreless innings while striking out 5 and walking none.

Gettle worked the final 2.0 innings in relief, allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 1. The Raiders also played a clean defensive game, finishing without an error.

At the plate, Tanger led the way by going 2-4 with a double and 5 RBI. Parker, Smith, and Gettle each added 2 hits, while Boyer reached base 3 times and drove in 2 runs. ELCO also showed patience throughout the game, drawing 10 walks.

For Octorara, Logan Smith went 2-3 with a double and scored the Braves’ lone run. Garrett Beiler drove in the run, while Cam Naggy and Grant Umble also collected hits.

ELCO is now 11-8 and will finish the regular season Thursday with a road game against Annville-Cleona. The Raiders are currently on the wrong side of the playoff bubble, but a 6th straight win against the Dutchmen could help their chances.
