Strohecker’s 4 RBI Day Powers Palmyra Past Carlisle

After returning to the win column on Tuesday against Bishop McDevitt, Palmyra kept things moving in the right direction on Thursday afternoon, rolling past Carlisle 12-2 in six innings.

Carlisle struck first in the 1st inning when Bradyn Sober doubled to bring home the game’s opening run, but Palmyra answered in the bottom half when Gabe Kern singled to tie the game at one.

The Cougars moved in front in the 2nd inning on a sacrifice fly by Julian Meley, then added two more in the 3rd when Logan Kriner singled and Adam Strohecker followed with a sacrifice fly.

Palmyra broke the game open in the 6th inning with a seven-run rally. Aidan Willard tripled home a run, Jesse Willi singled in another, Kern followed with an RBI triple, and Strohecker delivered the biggest swing of the day with a three-run home run to left field. Meley later added an RBI single to finish off the rally.

Chuck Gnall earned the win on the mound, allowing three hits and two runs, one earned, over four innings while striking out seven and walking two. Grady Stephens was excellent in relief, throwing two shutout innings without allowing a hit while striking out three.

Palmyra piled up 14 hits, with Meley, Kern, Strohecker, and Willard each collecting three. Strohecker drove in four runs, while Willard added two stolen bases. Willard now has 18 steals to go with his .500 batting average, 7 home runs, and 23 RBI.

For Carlisle, Sober, Colby Focht, and Will Donnelly each had one hit, while Sober and Donnelly drove in runs.

With the win, Palmyra improves to 14-1. The Cougars will host Lower Dauphin on Monday in a game that could decide the Keystone Division and also carry major District 3 Class 5A implications, with Lower Dauphin currently holding the top seed and Palmyra sitting at #2.
