Parker, Smith Lead ELCO Past Garden Spot as Raiders Stay Hot
After defeating Conestoga Valley on Friday, ELCO had a chance to make it two wins in a row when the Raiders traveled to Garden Spot on Monday.
Behind a strong day from Wyatt Parker at the plate and a complete-game effort from Austin Smith on the mound, ELCO kept its late-season momentum going with an 8-1 win.
Parker set the tone right away, launching a home run to center field in the top of the 1st to give the Raiders an early lead. ELCO continued to build from there, scoring 3 runs in the opening inning to take control before Garden Spot had a chance to settle in.
The Raiders added to the lead in the 3rd. Queston Rivera drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and another run came home when Garden Spot committed an error, pushing ELCO’s advantage to 5-0.
Garden Spot got on the board in the bottom of the 4th when Brody Torrance hit a solo home run to left field, but that was the only run the Spartans were able to score against Smith.
ELCO answered with another run in the 5th before adding 2 more in the 6th. Parker continued his big day with singles in the 3rd and 6th, finishing 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Tanner Hibshman also collected 2 hits, while the Raiders finished with 10 hits as a team.
Smith earned the win with a complete-game performance, allowing 6 hits and 1 run over 7.0 innings while striking out 9 and walking 2. The outing improved him to 4-2 with a 1.67 ERA, and it marked his 2nd complete game in a row. ELCO also played clean defense behind him, finishing without an error. Isaac Tanger handled the most chances in the field with 9.
The Raiders also used their speed to create pressure, stealing 5 bases in the win. Hibshman and Tyce Boyer each stole multiple bases.
For Garden Spot, Torrance led the way by going 2-for-3 with the solo home run and the Spartans’ lone RBI. Jake Speers took the loss, allowing 8 runs, 6 earned, on 10 hits over 6.0 innings.
ELCO (8-8) has now won 4 of its last 5 games. The Raiders will look to continue their strong stretch when they host Manheim Central on Wednesday.
