First Pitch

While we try not to be prone to hyperbole, Tuesday March 11, 2025 was what was known as “perfect baseball weather” for teams in the Northeast. Don’t feel bad for a lot of these college players though—many of them spent the last couple days “down south” in much warmer climates. Our Week Five recap has all the action.

Season Stats  / Upcoming Schedule

York opened later than most programs, but followed a loss at F&M with a 3-1 run. The junior RF was 2 for 3 with a walk against (RV) Rutgers-Camden on Thursday (Game Story and Box Score). On Saturday game one against Saint Mary’s, Deimling’s 2 for 4 day with two RBI, three runs scored, a walk, a double, and a triple paced the Spartans’ offense in a 15-3 win. Game two on Saturday saw Deimling walk twice, get hit by a pitch and score twice in a 12-10 win (Game Stories and Box Scores). Demling couldn’t avoid the baseball on Sunday, getting plunked twice and scoring two time in the 11-6 win to sweep Saint Mary’s (Game Story and Box Score). Deimling was hitless Tuesday at #13 Penn State Harrisburg defeated York 7-2 (Game Story and Box Score).

Season Stats  / Upcoming Schedule

Lodish threw a scoreless inning on Thursday in a 16-8 win over Delaware Tech CC (Box Score). He won his first career start on Sunday, throwing a six inning four hit shut out, with one walk and four punchouts against CCBC Dundalk (Box Score). In 13.2 innings thus far, Lodish has not allowed an earned run while striking out 18 and posting an eye-popping 0.95 WHIP.  This JuCo freshman will quickly be on the radar of various four year schools looking for established college pedigree.

Class of 2020/2021

Season Stats  / Upcoming Schedule

Senior 1B Dylan Beard helped lead Messiah to a doubleheader sweep on Saturday against the Landmark Conference defending champion University of Scranton Royals. In game one, Beard’s second inning bunt single fueled a rally in which he eventually scored, finishing that game 1 for 2, including a sac bunt, two runs and a hit by pitch. In game two, Beard added a 1 for 4 with an RBI single and a stolen base, and helped Messiah turn four double plays. The Falcons swept the Royals 8-2 and 14-5 (Game Stories and Box Scores). On Tuesday at Eastern Mennonite, Beard led the Falcon offense with two home runs and three RBI in wild and sloppy 13-12 Messiah defeat (Game Story and Box Score). The senior 1B enters conference play against Alvernia this weekend with a team leading .325 average, 18RBI, and .966OPS .

Amani Jones was in the middle of the action in a three game set against Concord. In Friday’s wild 23-11 win, Jones hit a three run home run to put the Marauders up 15-2 in the fifth. He added an RBI groundout in the eighth and an RBI single in the ninth to finish 2 for 7 with 5RBI (Game Story and Box Score). In game one on Saturday, Jones was 1 for 3 with two runs scored as the Black and Gold of MU fell 4-3 as Concord scored three in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off. Jones again scored twice in the finale with a hit as Millersville was swept on a windy Saturday (Game Stories and Box Scores).  On a Monday/Tuesday two game sweep of D’Youville, Jones was 1 for three both days, scoring twice on Monday (Game Story and Box Score) and adding a RBI hit by pitch on Tuesday (Game Story and Box Score). Jones enters the last full week of non-conference play with a .298 average.

In Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, the senior Dalton Reinhart was hitless in a 2-1 loss to Mary Washington in a contest that saw both teams combine for a mere seven hits. Reinhart took a breather in game two as MW swept the doubleheader with a 14-4 win (Game Stories and Box Scores). Stevenson dropped two more, this time to Rhode Island College, on Friday in SC, with the senior 1B notching one hit in the two games (Game Stories and Box Scores). The Mustangs came alive just in time for the ride home, and Reinhart had a great game, 4 for 4 with a home run, two doubles and three RBI as Stevenson crushed New England College 21-9 (Game Story and Box Score). Stevenson hosts LVC before starting conference play with Hood on March 14 weekend.

After watching one of the hottest teams in the country put up 35 runs combined over two nights, Monmouth entered the Sunday finale with University of Central Florida needing at least a moral victory before flying home to NJ. Trailing 3-0 with two outs and bases loaded in the third, the Hawks called on RHP Austin Beard to stem the tide. Following a two pitch inning ending ground out, the former Falcon tossed 4-1/3 innings of one run baseball, striking out two. When he departed at the end of eight, the Hawks were down 4-0, but ultimately fell 8-0 (Game Story and Box Score). His performance earned accolades from the ESPN+ crew covering the game.

Hard throwing lefty Braden Collazo threw 1.2 innings of relief as PSU-Skook opened up their spring break trip with a double header split with Christendom. Collazo struck out two while allowing one run (Game Story and Box Score). Collazo was tasked with back to back days of throwing. On Saturday, he took the loss in allowing two runs in 2.1 innings against New Jersey City College (Box Score).

Although there are no posted box scores, reliable social media reports indicate that Robbie Best appeared on the mound on Saturday, recording a clean inning in his first outing. In an “only happens in JuCo” moment, he appeared in relief in game two as well.

In Florida, 3B Jared Ecenroad notched a hit with two walks, scoring once, as DelVal fell to Utica (Game Story and Box Score). He appeared in losses to Fitchburg State (Game Story and Box Score) and Bowdoin (Game Story and Box Score).

As Presto Sports still struggles to handle the new business from NJCAA, we turn to Gamechanger for FTCC’s information. In an 18-6 loss to Richard Bland College, freshman Dylan Fegley took the loss allowing six runs over four innings.

Keagen Kleinfelter was 2 for 2 with a double, run, and RBI on Friday in a win over Wallace Community College – Selma (Box Score). Kleinfelter unloaded on Florida Post Grad, going 4 for 4 with two runs, five RBI and a double (Box Score). In game two, he added another double and RBI to lead the Cougars offense (Box Score). Kleinfelter is hitting .409 with a 1.045OPS.

Freshman RHP Gaven Schreier earned his first career start in Florida, tossing three innings against Kenyon College, allowing one run and punching out five, departing with a no decision in a 6-5 win (Game Story and Box Score).

ELCO grad Morgan Shanaman picked up his first collegiate win over North Dakota State College of Science in Florida. The box score is still not posted, but reliable social media reports indicate that he threw four innings of shutout baseball, striking out eight. SUNY Niagara is ranked #4 nationally in D3 JuCo.
