GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lebanon 66, Northern Lebanon 45 – Lebanon Holiday Tournament: Championship Game – A balanced scoring attack from the Cedars proved to be too much for the Lady Vikings, claiming the matchup between two of the area’s best teams. Liliana Harrison finished with a game high 21 points, while Kailah Correa & Olive Brandt each hit a trio of three pointers on their way to 19 points a piece. Olivia Shutter, who also had three threes in the game, led with 16 points for Northern Lebanon, while Kasey Weimer had 13 points. Lebanon (7-2) will host Donegal on Friday, January 3rd  . Northern Lebanon (8-2) will next play on the road at ELCO on Monday, January 6th.

Cedar Crest 29, Lower Dauphin 26 – Lower Dauphin Holiday Tournament: Championship Game – Freshman Elli Malinoski scored 16 points, including two three pointers (both in the 4th, one of which was the buzzer beating game winner) and a 4-5 performance at the foul line, to lead Crest to victory in the battle of the Falcons. Another state of interest is that Malinoski finished the game without any fouls being called against her in the defensive battle. Cedar Crest (6-5) will ride their tournament championship into their next game at home against Manheim Township on January 8th.

 

 

 

ELCO 68, Pine Grove 37 Pine Grove Holiday Tournament: Championship Game – Tied at the end of the 1st quarter, the Lady Raiders hit the accelerator in the 2nd and never looked back on their way to the championship. Kenzie Eckhart led the with 27 points (4 threes, 5-6 FT). Maddie Stout was also in double figures with 17 points, while Reece Woelfling had 9 points. ELCO (7-3) will host Northern Lebanon on Monday, January 6th.

 

Delone Catholic 54, Palmyra 36 – Lebanon Holiday Tournament: Consolation Game – The Lady Cougars (3-5) will host Mifflin County on Friday, January 3rd.

 

 

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cedar Crest 49, Steelton Highspire 44 – Cedar Crest Holiday Tournament: Championship Game: The Falcons were down by 10 at halftime and 6 at the end of the 3rd, but weathered the challenge by the Rollers to bring home the tournament championship. RJ Young led the Cedar Crest scoring with 14 points, while Danny Speaks finished the game with 10 points. Speaks & Dylan Groff provided a spark for the Falcons in the final frame, each scoring 6. Groff finished the game with 8 points. Cedar Crest (7-1) will host Conestoga Valley on Friday, January 3rd.

Annville-Cleona 59 , Oley Valley 56 – Oley Valley Holiday Tournament: Consolation Game – Down 14 points at the half, the Dutchmen stormed back for the dub. Elisha Slabach led the scoring effort with 34 points. The senior, who now has 945 points in his career, scored 28 in the 2nd half & completed his day with a 14-14 FT performance. Also aiding AC’s effort were Jon Shay scoring 15 points & Anthony Pena who scored 9 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Annville-Cleona (7-3) is back in action on Monday, January 6th when they travel to take on Columbia.

Ephrata 49 , Northern Lebanon 36 – Northern Lebanon Holiday Tournament: Championship Game – Riley Messinger scored 16 points (2 threes, 4-4 FT) to lead the Vikings, but Ephrata proved to be too much as they took away much of the scoring that Northern Lebanon enjoyed on Friday night. Northern Lebanon (3-8) will look to get back into the win column when they play Susquehannock next Saturday, January 4th.

Exeter 58, Palmyra 53 – Cedar Crest Holiday Tournament: Consolation Game: The Cougars battled Exeter but ultimately fell after losing a hard-fought game to host Cedar Crest on Friday night. In this contest, Palmyra was led in the scoring department by Braydon Bown with 14 points (4 three pointers) all in the 2nd half. Bennett Weaber also hit double figures with 10 points. Palmyra (3-7) will play Penn Manor on the road next Saturday, January 4th.

 

 

Friday, December 27

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northern Lebanon 32, Delone Catholic 30 – Lebanon Holiday Tournament – Olivia Shutter scored 15 points to lead the Lady Vikings as a strong defensive effort and good ball distribution sealed the victory. Northern Lebanon improved to 8-1. They will play in the tournament’s championship game on Saturday against Lebanon.

Lebanon 58, Palmyra 28 – Lebanon Holiday Tournament – Kailah Correa scored 16 points, while both Lili Harrison & Olive Brandt scored a baker’s dozen to pace the Cedars to victory. Mya Doster & Addi Salus each had 10 points for the Lady Cougars, with many of their points having to be earned at the free throw line. Lebanon (6-2) will meet Northern Lebanon in Satuday’s championship. Palmyra (3-4) will battle Delone Catholic in the consolation game.

Cedar Crest 50, Twin Valley 43 – Lower Dauphin Holiday Tournament – Kaila Francis scored 23, while Elli Malinoski knocked down four treys on her way to 16 points. The duo’s effort helped lead the Falcons past Twin Valley. Cedar Crest is now 5-5. They will play in the tournament’s championship game on Saturday.

ELCO 55, Shenandoah Valley 31 – Pine Grove Holiday Tournament – Maddie Stout scored 22 & Kenzie Eckhart had 15 points as the Lady Raiders cruised to victory. ELCO is now 6-3. They will play in the tournament’s championship game on Saturday.

Annville-Cleona 41, Tulpehocken 36 – Annville-Cleona Holiday Tournament – After building a 23-10 lead at halftime, the Dutchmen were able to overcome Tulpe’s comeback attempt. Kendall Cooper was Annville’s top scorer with 24 points. With the win, Annville-Cleona improves to 7-3. They will play Schuylkill Valley in the championship game on Monday evening.

 

BOYS BASKETBALL

Kennett 60, Annville-Cleona 55 – Oley Valley Holiday Tournament – For the Dutchmen, Elisha Slabach scored 24, Jon Shay scored 13, & Anthony Pena had 10 points. Despite the triple threat, Kennett was able to use a strong 2nd half effort to overcome the challenge. Annville-Cleona is now 6-3. They will play in the tournament’s consolation game on Saturday.

Northern Lebanon 77, Biglerville 38 – Northern Lebanon Holiday Tournament – The Vikings lit up the scoreboard on their way to the blowout victory over visiting Biglerville. Leading the scoring bonanza were Brady Krall (18) & Riley Messinger (16). Ten different players registered points for the Vikings. Northern Lebanon improves to 3-7. On Saturday, they will play Ephrata in the tournament championship game.

Cedar Crest 53, Palmyra 41 – Cedar Crest Holiday Tournament – In a tightly contested affair, the Falcons overcame a five point deficit after the 1st quarter of play to break away from the Cougars as the game progressed. Helping Cedar Crest was a tremendous 17-22 on free throw attempts, with Danny Speaks going 7-7 on his way to leading the team with 13 points. RJ Young joined Speaks in double digits with 11 points, while Cam Tirado, whose 2nd quarter performance turned the tide, joined Jack Waranavage in tallying 9 points a piece. Palmyra was led by Alex Dorta who scored 13 points (5-6 FT). Braydon Bown & Aidan Willard each scored 9 points. Cedar Crest (6-1) will play in Saturday’s championship. Palmyra (3-5) will playin the consolation game.

 

 

Monday, December 23

BOYS BASKETBALL

Palmyra 62, Warwick 54 – Alex Dorta scored 20, while Brayden Bown scored 15 & Micah Warner had 14 as the Cougars pulled the road upset to hand the first loss of the season to one of the the LL’s best teams. Palmyra improved to 3-4 with the win.

Kutztown 64, Northern Lebanon 52 – Brady Krall scored 20, while Andrew Via contributed 16 points, but it would not be enough as the Vikings fell to visiting Kutztown.

 

 

Sunday, December 22

Northern Lebanon’s Aaron Seidel  won the prestigious Beast of the East Wrestling Tournament in the 132-pound weight class. He dominated, going 7-0 and not allowing a single point in any of the matches.
