Wrestling: Northern Lebanon Defeats ELCO to Claim Section 3 Crown

On Wednesday night, the teams from Northern Lebanon and ELCO met in Fredericksburg. With both squads coming into the contest undefeated in league dual matches, the outcome would decide Section 3 of the Lancaster Lebanon League. The rivalry between the two teams has intensified in recent years, with the Raiders winning Section 3 last season in another winner-take-all dual.

With Northern Lebanon having the opportunity to choose the starting weight class, the match started with 133-pounds. In the night’s first match, Karter Adams gained six points for the Vikings after pinning Isaiah Musser. ELCO would then go on to win the next four match-ups as Zane Trostle, Klint Miller, Samuel Bechtel, and Mitchell Frederick all won by pinning their opponents.

Down 22-6, the Vikings’ Eli Ostermeyer and Tanner Feagley each pinned their challengers. Their wins at 172 and 189 made the match 22-18. ELCO and Northern Lebanon would split the next four matches, with Kyle Miller and Ashton Kriss earning the wins for ELCO, and Hayden Adams and Sam Wolford picking up wins for Northern Lebanon.

With the match 34-30 in favor of the Raiders, two-time defending State Champion Aaron Seidel went unchallenged at 121-pounds, giving the Vikings a lead for the first time. Julian Zaragoza then took to the mat, but ELCO’s strategy left this match uncontested, preserving the Northern Lebanon victory and a return of the Section 3 Championship to Viking Nation.
