     Annville-Cleona Dutchmen 2022-2023 Girls Basketball

A season ago, the Dutchmen finished the season with a 12-10 record and nearly made the District 3 Playoffs, finishing seventh in the power rankings when they only take six teams out of AAA.  The real good news for the Annville faithful is that they will see four of the five starters from last year’s team back on the hardwood this season, this time as seniors.  This group that will provide valuable experience and leadership, along with their athletic talent,  is made up of Sarah Speraw, Josie Clay, Claire Hoover, and Sage Sherk.  Beyond the seniors, there is a wealth of talent on Coach Wee Sanchez’s team, beginning with the return of sophomore Ava Hoover, the team’s leading scorer last year.  Yet, as nice as it is, mentioning individual names may not be at all what will define this deep 2022-2023 Annville-Cleona team.

Coach Sanchez is in his second year with Annville-Cleona, but has over fifteen years of coaching experience.  He has stated that in that time he has never “seen a team chemistry like this group”.  He went on to tout their selflessness in the way that they play, saying “it doesn’t matter who scores the most points in any given night”.  This is a good sign for the culture of a winning program that is hungry for more.  Each of the players recognize that the strength of the team is a collective effort, that this is not a star on this team.  This has resulted in what Coach Sanchez feels is a culture within his team that their ultimate goal is to win for each other and the community.
