Cedar Crest Rallies Past Milton Hershey to Clinch First District Berth Since 2012

Friday marked the final regular-season game for Cedar Crest, which visited Milton Hershey needing a win to strengthen its District 3 playoff position. The Falcons did more than keep their season alive, rallying from an early deficit to defeat the Spartans 18-7 and secure their first District 3 playoff berth since 2012.

Cedar Crest struck first in the 1st when Mia Lutz doubled, bringing home two runs and giving the Falcons an early advantage.

Milton Hershey answered quickly in the bottom half, as Aaliyah Lindahl doubled in two runs before Destiny Cortessingled home another to put the Spartans in front, 3-2.

After Cedar Crest tied the game at three in the 2nd, Milton Hershey pushed back ahead in the bottom half. Lindahlsingled to center, and a Falcon error helped the Spartans plate four runs in the inning, giving Milton Hershey a 7-3 lead.

The Falcons began to chip away in the 3rd before completely flipping the game in the 4th. Cedar Crest scored nine runs in the inning despite collecting just one hit, using patience at the plate and pressure on the bases to take control. The biggest swing in the inning came when Lutz drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home two runs as part of the Falcons’ surge.

Cedar Crest added three more runs in the 5th to put the game away. The Falcons finished with six hits and worked fourteen walks, with Jackie Funderburk going 2-3 with three runs scored, a triple, and an RBI. Ali Groff added a hit and two RBI, while Julia Cole and Ava Rosario each drove in a run.

In the circle, Addison Nolen settled in after Milton Hershey’s early offense. She went five innings, allowing six hits and seven runs, three earned, while striking out five and walking three.

For Milton Hershey, Lindahl led the Spartans by going 2-3 with a double and four RBI. Matix Thomas also had two hits, including a double and a triple, while scoring twice.

With the win, Cedar Crest improved to 9-10 and will move on to the District 3 Playoffs for the first time since 2012.
