Palmyra Snaps Skid Behind Funck’s Dominance in 2-1 Win over Carlisle

After grinding through a five-game losing streak, Palmyra showed its perseverance on Thursday, leaning on a dominant performance in the circle from Emalyn Funck to edge Carlisle 2-1 and get back into the win column.

The game’s decisive moment came in the 4th inning, when Ava Walmer brought home a run with a groundout before Shay Rutter followed with an RBI single to right field. That sequence accounted for both runs and proved to be the difference in a tightly played contest.

In the circle, Emalyn Funck delivered one of her strongest outings of the season. The right-hander struck out 10 and allowed just one hit and one run over seven innings, working around four walks while consistently shutting down Carlisle’s lineup.

At the plate, Ellie Bullard and Emalyn Funck led the way with two hits apiece as Palmyra totaled eight hits on the afternoon. Walmer and Rutter each drove in a run, while the Cougars added a key double play defensively to help limit Carlisle’s chances.

For Carlisle, M. Lilley recorded the team’s lone hit, while King kept the game within reach by going the distance in the circle and allowing just two runs on eight hits.

With the win, Palmyra improves to 6-8 and will look to build on the momentum when they travel to face Elizabethtown on Saturday.
