Cedar Crest Boys Stay Perfect, Girls Edged by McCaskey in One-Point Meet
Cold, breezy conditions greeted Cedar Crest and McCaskey on Monday, and the Falcons were tested in a big way during a Section 1 showdown. By the end of the meet, Cedar Crest had one team protect its unbeaten record, while the girls came up just short in a one-point heartbreaker.
The Cedar Crest boys improved to 5-0 with a 92-58 victory, while the girls dropped a tight 75-74 decision that moved them to 3-2 on the season.
Girls Recap: McCaskey 75, Cedar Crest 74
The Cedar Crest girls put together plenty of winning performances, but McCaskey’s depth proved just enough to steal the meet by a single point. Kaddel Howard delivered a huge day on the track for the Falcons, winning the 400m in 56.1 and the 200m in 24.3, while Makenzie Wamsher contributed key points with a second-place finish in the 1600m, another runner-up showing in the 300m Hurdles, and a leg on the winning 4x400m Relay.
Cedar Crest also found major success in the field. Mikayla Fripps picked up wins in both the Shot Put at 32’5.75″ and the Discus at 107’9″, while Clara Schneider won the Javelin with a throw of 136’2″. Ryan Stopper added a victory in the Triple Jump at 31’8″, and Jesslyn Risser cleared 8’0″ to win the Pole Vault.
The Falcons added more big points in the jumps, where Clara Schneider won the High Jump at 4’10” and Cedar Crest swept the top three spots in the event behind Jenah Francois and Paris Jarrells. The Falcons also got a runner-up finish from Olivia Cuthie in the Javelin, a second-place effort from Mikalyn Weaber in the Shot Put, and another relay win from the 4×400 group of Makenzie Wamsher, Emma Kline, Ellie Schneider, and Kaddel Howard.
McCaskey’s top efforts came from Carlisle, who swept the hurdles, Miller, who won the Long Jump and ran on the winning 4x100m Relay, and Mayne, who won the 1600m and ran on the winning 4x800m Relay. In the end, the Falcons’ strong showing across the field events nearly carried them to the win, but the Tornado depth on the track proved just enough in a 75-74 finish.
