Elyse Ancharski

Palmyra junior Elyse Ancharski kept her strong season rolling with a standout performance in Friday’s 57–17 win over Red Land, helping the Lady Cougars seize control early and cruise to a decisive Keystone Division victory.
Ancharski led the way with 16 points, knocking down three three-pointers and doing most of her damage in the first half, when she scored 13. Those efforts earned her the votes as this week’s LebCo Athlete of the Week.
The points grabbed attention, but her overall efficiency and poise were just as impressive — the type of complete performance that can separate teams as the postseason approaches. For the week, Ancharski — known simply as “E” to friends and family — shot 67% from three-point range and didn’t commit a single turnover.
First-year head coach Pedro Rodriguez said her recent play has been building for months. “Her recent play is no surprise to our team,” Rodriguez said. “Even while playing soccer in the fall, she consistently made time to be in the gym working on her basketball game. She’s a hard worker, very coachable, and we’re proud of her growth both as a player and as a leader. The best is still ahead for her.”
Ancharski’s mindset mirrors Palmyra’s goals heading into the postseason. “Our goals as a team include making a run in districts and increasing our shooting percentage,” she said. “I think taking mindful shots has helped get the team’s percentage up, which then helped us win some big games.” Individually, she’s focused on continuing to round out her game. “I hope to improve my defense overall and be more assertive on offense,” she added.

Alongside seniors Addi Salus and Mya Doster, Ancharski’s steady production has helped Palmyra put together a 14–8 season — one that will send the Lady Cougars into the District 3 Playoffs with momentum and confidence.
She’s quick to credit the people around her, too. “I want to thank my parents, coaches, trainers, and friends who always watch and support me on the court,” she said.
A multi-sport athlete, Ancharski also plays soccer, and she hopes to attend a four-year college to study occupational therapy or physical therapy. Athletics run in the family as well — her father, Bob Ancharski, played baseball in high school and at York College.
Away from sports, Ancharski enjoys watching games, shopping, and spending time with friends. But what she values most is the experience shared with her teammates. “I love the game of course, but a lot of my favorite memories come off the court with my teammates,” she said. “They are my best friends and I look forward to seeing them every day at practice!”
Congratulations to Elyse on being named LebCo Athlete of the Week, and best of luck to her and the Lady Cougars as they begin their postseason run. Here’s hoping “E” gets to play several more games alongside her best friends before the season officially comes to a close.
