Hayley Sheroky

During the week of January 5th, Northern Lebanon senior point guard Hayley Sheroky delivered a pair of poised, high-impact performances to help the Vikings pick up key section victories over ELCO and Lampeter-Strasburg. Sheroky scored 8 points in the win over the Raiders before turning in a standout effort later in the week, pouring in a team-high 16 points in a dramatic 38–37 victory over the Pioneers. In that win, she went a perfect 8-for-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, calmly knocking down pressure shots to seal the outcome. Sheroky’s leadership and late-game execution during those performances earned her LebCo Athlete of the Week honors.

Sheroky’s approach during the week was rooted in urgency and control. “My performance was driven by the need for success,” she said. “We played two section games, one of them being crucial for section placement. I made it my priority to do my duty as point guard and keep control of my team and the pace of the games.” Along with timely scoring, she also emphasized ball movement and decision-making, creating opportunities for teammates while delivering in key moments herself.

As a senior leader and four-year starter, Sheroky has embraced a larger role throughout the season. “I’ve contributed as one of the main leaders and point guards,” she explained. “I’ve made it a point to project our goals to my teammates to inspire them in times of good and bad, while increasing my scoring and still keeping control of the game.”

That balance has paid dividends. Averaging nearly 11 points per game, Sheroky has been a major part of Northern Lebanon’s success, teaming with fellow seniors Kasey Weimer and Saoirse Phillips to form a three-headed scoring attack. Her season-high performance came on December 29th, when she exploded for 26 points, including six three-pointers, in a win over Bishop McDevitt. With that offensive firepower paired with strong team defense, the Vikings have surged to a 14–3 record and currently sit atop the District 3 Class 4A Power Rankings.

Sheroky’s personal goals reflect both individual milestones and championship aspirations. “My major goal personally is to score 1,000 points,” she said. “But for our team, I aspire to win the section, leagues, and districts, then make a run through states. Our team has had a lot of success over the years but has yet to win a title—so I believe this is our year.”

She is quick to recognize the people who have helped her reach this point. Sheroky thanked her family for their constant support, along with her coaches and the doctors and trainers who helped her recover from injuries along the way.

Outside of basketball, Sheroky is staying busy year-round. She plans to return to softball this spring for the first time since middle school and is currently taking an EMT class with the goal of becoming a certified EMT. Looking ahead, she will attend Penn State Harrisburg, majoring in Integrative Science before pursuing PA school, with aspirations of becoming a Physician Assistant in Neurology. She also hopes to coach one day—and maybe even write a book.

What she enjoys most about sports, however, is the competition. “I love watching our wins add up and seeing where we place in the league and districts,” she said. “Playing against tougher teams makes the wins feel that much more exciting.”

Congratulations to Hayley on being named LebCo Athlete of the Week. Best of luck to her and the Northern Lebanon Lady Vikings as they continue their push toward postseason success.
