LebCo Athlete of the Week Voting: December 22 – January 4

 

 

Presented in coordination with Froggy Valley 100.1/WiLBuR 99.7 & Lebanon Federal Credit Union.

 


 

Help us decide which male and female athlete should be honored for their outstanding efforts during last week’s local high school sports action.  While you may have a favorite school or athlete already, we still encourage you to read through the lists below and then click on the link to vote.

Voting will remain open until Thursday at 10 pm.

While athletes can be nominated multiple weeks, the winners will be removed and updates will be provided as the season progresses.

While this may be a vote and emotions can run high, this is intended to bring attention to some of the best performances from our local student-athletes.

Nominations, which are made working with the schools, are listed below in alphabetical order.

Please read about each nominee, celebrate their accomplishment, and then go vote who you feel is most deserving of this week’s honor. 

The winners will be announced at the end of the week.

Female Nominees

Lilli Bohn (Cedar Crest / So.) – Wrestling: The sophomore continued her strong season by placing 4th at the Big Spring Invitational on December 20 and 3rd at a highly competitive Penn Manor New Year’s Eve Tournament at 155 pounds. Now 12-5 on the season, Bohn has placed in the top four in all three tournaments this year.

Tayana Camuy (Lebanon / Jr.) – Basketball: The junior has emerged as a leader and key secondary scorer for the Cedars over the past three games. In wins over Elizabethtown and Bishop McDevitt, Camuy averaged 9.7 points per game, including a 12-point effort against McDevitt.

Kayla Donmoyer (Northern Lebanon / So.) – Bowling: The sophomore helped lead the Vikings to a first-place finish at the Blizzard Bowl Tournament on December 27. Despite only beginning her bowling journey in November, Donmoyer is averaging 147 and rolled a high game of 181 at the event. In the Baker-style portion, she marked in 21 of 28 frames.

McKenna Kantner (New Covenant / Fr.) – Basketball: The freshman continued her outstanding start, averaging 19.7 points per game in three wins over Millersburg, York Christian, and West Shore Christian. Kantner scored 23 points against York Christian as the Flames maintained their undefeated season.

Ryan Stopper (Cedar Crest / So.) – Basketball: Through two games at the Lower Dauphin Holiday Tournament, Stopper averaged 9.5 points, 6 steals, and 3 rebounds per game. The sophomore guard shot 60% from the field and 87% from the free-throw line, providing energy on both ends.

Kora Wolfe (Annville-Cleona / So.) – Wrestling: Wolfe placed second at the Governor Mifflin Girls Tournament at 136 pounds, going 3-1 with three pins, including a 35-second fall. The sophomore is now 10-5 on the season and continues to show rapid growth on the mat.



Male Nominees

Luke Grumbein (Palmyra / Sr.) – Basketball: The senior earned MVP honors at the Cedar Crest Holiday Tournament after leading the Cougars to wins over Exeter and Cedar Crest, scoring 14 points in each game. Palmyra has surged in the rankings, also defeating Mifflin County before Christmas and Penn Manor to open the new year. Grumbein is now averaging 10 points, 4.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.

Landyn Kline (Cedar Crest / Sr.) – Wrestling: The senior had a strong week on the mat, going 9-2 overall across two tournaments. Kline finished 5-1 at Jim Thorpe to place third and went 4-1 at the Grizzly Duals. In his nine wins, he recorded six pins and two technical falls.

Blaine Leitz (Annville-Cleona / Jr.) – Wrestling: Competing at 189 pounds, Leitz earned a silver medal at the inaugural Geesaman Invitational, hosted by Northern Lebanon, and also finished with a gold medal at the Newport Holiday Tournament. Across the two events, he went 6-1 with four pins and two tech falls and now sits at 14-2 on the season.

Bryce Martin (Northern Lebanon / Jr.) – Basketball: The junior poured in 21 points during Northern Lebanon’s 93-point explosion against Biglerville on December 29. Martin connected on two three-pointers as the Vikings continued a strong stretch, winning four of their last five games.

Manny Martinez (Lebanon / Jr.) – Basketball: Martinez stepped up offensively for the Cedars in wins over Donegal and Elizabethtown, scoring 20 and 21 points, respectively. The junior guard also knocked down seven three-pointers across the two victories.

Austin Smith (ELCO / Sr.) – Basketball: The senior played a key role in ELCO’s thrilling 46-41 win over Pottsville, the Raiders’ first victory over the Tide in quite some time. Smith made multiple hustle plays, diving for loose balls to gain extra possessions, and scored timely points down the stretch, including several crucial free throws. He finished with 8 points and is averaging 9.6 points per game this season.

Talan VanDerPloog (New Covenant / Jr.) – Basketball: As the Flames went 2-0 over the holiday break, VanDerPloog averaged 17.5 points per game. His week was highlighted by a 20-point performance against West Shore Christian, capped by a game-winning three-pointer on Saturday.
