Friday, April 5

Donegal @ Northern Lebanon

Girls: Donegal 88, Northern Lebanon 58

The Northern Lebanon Girls won eight events during their meet with Donegal, with seven individual athletes picking up first place. On the Track, Selah Martino won the 200m (29.2), and Elsie Shuey took the top spot in the 3200m (14:45.1). The Vikings also had the winning time in the 4x100m (55.1). In the Jumps, a pair of basketball players won events, with Saoirse Phillips in the High Jump (4’6”) and Mac Miller victorious in the Triple Jump (30’0”). Northern Lebanon was three-for-three in the Throws, with the winners as follows: Javelin – Isabella Seibert (82’8”); Discus – Mariah Kipp (80’3”); Shot Put – Ayva Sechman (30’3.25”).

The Vikings are now 0-1 on the season. They are next in action next Friday night at the Sterling Hoffman Track & Field Invitational hosted by Tulpehocken.

Boys: Northern Lebanon 82, Donegal 68

The Vikings started their 2024 season with a win at home. They did so with a balanced attack that earned them the points needed to outpace Donegal. Leading the way with wins in two events were Joseph Escobales and Tyler Shunk. Escobales was 1st in the 110m High Hurdles (17.7) and 300m IM Hurdles (45.2). Shunk was the top Distance runner with wins in the 1600m (4:36.3) and 3200m (10:42.5). Carter Cheslock was the other Viking winner on the track, taking 1st place in the 400m (54.4). David Boyer also had a nice day, finishing 2nd to Escobales in both Hurdle events with times of 18.5 and 46.3, respectively.

In the Field, Kaden Moyer won the Long Jump (19’0.5”) and took 2nd in the Triple Jump (34’7”). Tanner Feagley won the Javelin (147’9”), placed 2nd in Shot (42’0.25”), and picked up 3rd in Discus (106’4”). Teammate Connor Troxell won the Discus (113’1”).

The Vikings, with a well-executed game plan, also won all three Relays for 15 valuable points that helped to swing the meet in their favor. Their strategy of maximizing points in the Relays, a testament to their teamwork and coordination, proved to be a winning formula.

Northern Lebanon is now 1-0 to start the season.

Thursday, April 4

Lebanon @ Cedar Crest

Girls: Cedar Crest 117, Lebanon 32

Eliana Schneider starred in Cedar Crest’s first meet of the season, winning four events. The sophomore showed off her range, taking 1st place in the 200m (29.2), Javelin (122’8”), Long Jump (19’9.5”), and High Jump (5’4”). Fellow sophomore Makenzie Wamsher was the only other Falcon to win multiple events, taking the 100m High Hurdles (17.9) and 300m IM Hurdles (51.8). Other winners for Cedar Crest were: Ope Ojo – 100m (12.6); Lizzie Lowe – 400m (1:02.9); Camilla Zimmerman – 800m (2:38.2); Maggie Chernich – 1600m (6:13.8); Cara Figueroa – 3200m (13:20.4); Hailee Kreiser – Pole Vault (9’). Cedar Crest also won the 4x400m and the 4x800m to finish the day victorious in fourteen of the eighteen events.

Though Lebanon was overwhelmed in numbers and depth, the Cedars put up a fight where they could. Liliana Harrison won the Shot Put (36’3.5”) and Discus (104’5”). Zariyah Whigham won the Triple Jump (36’6”) and also placed 2nd in Long Jump (15’7.5”). Whigham also teamed up with Zianna Whigham, Jae Burrus, and Dimaris Rivera-Colon to win the 4x100m Relay.

Cedar Crest’s Kaddel Howard, the reigning 400m State Champion, did not run in the meet.

Boys: Cedar Crest 96, Lebanon 54

On Thursday, Lebanon made the short trip to Cedar Crest. The Cedars were coming off of their win over Warwick, while it would be the first meet of the season for the Falcons after they had a bye in Week 1.

After starting the meet with a victory in the 4x800m in a time of 8:42.9, the Cedars would continue to impress on the Track. Jalik Hill won both the 100m (11.1) and the 200m (23.5). Ramon Urena Batista had the distance events on lockdown, winning both the 1600m (4:38.1) and 3200m (10:21.1). Owen Kreider won the 400m (52.6) before Tyler Long took the 800m (2:06.9). In both the 800m (2:08.2) and the 1600m (4:45.2), it was Gavin Sheetz in 2nd place. Lebanon finished off the meet with a victory in the 4x400m. In total, Lebanon took 1st place in eight of the eleven running events. In the Field, Eddie Ferrer took the lone 1st place for the Cedars, winning the Triple Jump (39’9.5″).

Cedar Crest’s strength lay in their depth and versatility. Reed Fretz led the charge, winning both the 110m High Hurdles (16.0) and the 300m IM Hurdles (44.3) to lead a Falcon sweep. The Falcons’ dominance extended to the Field, where they swept the Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Long Jump, and Pole Vault. Dylan Groff showcased his skills, finishing 1st in the Javelin (147’8″) and Long Jump (19’7.75″). Tristan Long led the way in the Shot Put (47’8″), while Alex Kissinger took the top spot in the Discus (130’9″). Vinay Saraiya took the Pole Vault (10′). Leo Tirado also took five points by winning the High Jump (5’10”).

In the end, Lebanon put up an impressive fight but could not overcome Cedar Crest.

Annville-Cleona @ ELCO

Girls: Annville-Cleona 93, ELCO 57

An early season matchup that last year decided Section 3 took place at ELCO High School on Thursday when Annville-Cleona visited. The Raiders entered the day having defeated Donegal last week.

For the Dutchmen, it was their first meet of the season, and they returned most of the key pieces that won them the District 3 (AA) Championship last season. This resulted in a deep line-up that allowed them to neutralize ELCO’s attempts to start the season 2-0. Miracle Hershey won the 100m (13.0) and 200m (27.8). Joining Hershey with two individual wins was Mackenzie Stellmach, who won the 1600m (5:36.5) and 3200m (12:16.5). Stellmach was also a member of the winning 4x800m team. Other winners for the Dutchmen were: Sophia Caporaletti – 400m (1:04.5); Addison Sanchez – 800m (2:44.8); Jenna Ulrich – High Jump (4’2”); Caitlin Shay – Pole Vault (8’6”); Ainsley Sellers – Discus (88’4”).

The Raiders had two individuals who took 1st place in two events. Sara Miller finished 300m IM Hurdles (51.6) and Javelin (80’1”) while also serving as a leg on the winning 4x400m team. Makenna Haas took victories in both the Long Jump (17’6”) and Triple Jump (34’7”). Haas was also a member of the winning 4x100m team. Other winners for ELCO were Bre Etherson in the 100m High Hurdles (17.3) and Kenzie Eckhart in the Shot Put (30’1”).

Boys: ELCO 94.5, Annville-Cleona 55.5

In their season-opening meet against Donegal, ELCO used its experience and depth to earn the season-opening victory. On Thursday, they hosted Annville-Cleona in their second test of the young season.

The Raiders won fifteen events in the meet, with nine different athletes winning individual events. The meet was highlighted by the ELCO 4x100m relay team of Logan Kless, Collin Readinger, Ben Stohler & Jake Williams, who ran a 43.9 to break the school record that had previously stood for 40 years. Williams would also win the 100m (10.9), while Readinger locked down the 200m (22.9). Stohler made his presence known in the Triple Jump (40’6.25”). Luke Macchione was the leading point scorer for the Raiders, winning three events: 110m High Hurdles (16.3), 300m IM Hurdles (40.1), and the Long Jump (19’11.5”). Macchione was also a member of the winning 4x400m team, which also featured Camdem Marquette, who took 1st place in the 400m (52.8). Chad Keller won the 1600m (4:43.6), edging out Annville’s Landon Hostetter by .1 at the finish line. In the Throws, Avery Kurtz won the Shot Put (43’5”) and Discus (116’6”).

Annville-Cleona began the meet by taking 1st place in the 4x800m with the team of Landon Hostetter, Z Moyer, Matt Clemson, and David Moran. After losing a tight battle in the 1600m, Hostetter would bounce back to take the 3200m (10:25.8). Bryson Fogelsanger was the only other individual winner on the day, taking the Javelin (133’4”). Wes Heller scored 6 points with 2nd-place finishes in the Long Jump (19’7.75”) and High Jump (5’2”).

ELCO is now 2-0 after two impressive showings. Annville is now 0-1 but showed much promise that will yield them several dual meet victories this season.

The meet was highlighted by Tyler Burgess, who broke the Palmyra School Record in the 110m High Hurdles.
