Lancaster Catholic 62, Lebanon 48 (LL League Championship Finals)

Lebanon 49, Columbia 41 (LL League Semifinals)

In the Lancaster Lebanon League Semifinals, the Cedars had one of their biggest tests of the season. In two straight seasons, the Columbia Tide kept Lebanon from winning the League Championship. Columbia has not lost a step, so this year’s matchup would come down to how much Lebanon has improved. It also meant containing Columbia’s feared twins, Brooke and Brie Droege.

The action was fast-paced early on, with Brie leading Columbia with 8 points. However, two late three-pointers by Zariyah Whigham and Olive Brandt gave Lebanon a 5-point lead after the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter, the offenses slowed down, but Whigham hit another shot from the perimeter as the Cedars held a 24-20 lead going into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Tide continued to chip away at their deficit. They were met with fierce resistance as Kailah Correa scored 8 points in the quarter as Lebanon retained a slim 1-point advantage. In the 4th, the Cedars dominated on the glass, creating opportunities from the foul stripe. In the final minutes, Lebanon hit 11 free throws to break away and hold on for the victory. Brandt led the parade of foul shots, going 5-8 down the stretch.

For the game, Lebanon had three players in double-digits. Correa finished the game with 16. Whigham scored 13 points, including her long-range shooting exploits. Brandt closed the game with 10 points. The Droege sisters were held to just 24 points, with Brie scoring 12 points in the 1st half (only 1 the rest of the game) and Brooke scoring 11 in the 2nd half.

Lebanon will now face a powerhouse Lancaster Catholic for the LL League Championship, Thursday, 7:00 @ Manheim Township.

Our Lady of the Cross 62, Lehigh Valley Charter 45

Well, she did it! After scoring 49 in a game last week, Riley Hatzfeld scored 50 points as Our Lady defended their home court against Lehigh Valley Charter. Initially, Lehigh Valley had the game in hand, building a 7-point lead after the 1st quarter. After scoring 9 points in the opening frame, the junior threw the team on her back. In the 2nd quarter, she scored 15 to give Our Lady a 26-24 lead. In the 3rd, Hatzfeld continued her hot streak, scoring 11, but also getting Mackenzie Grauel into the action with 4 points. In the 4th quarter, Lehigh Valley could not figure out a way to stop the offensive assault as Hatzfeld added 17 more. This included the Lions holding the ball for the final 2+ minutes.

Hatzfeld’s line included five three-pointers and going 5-5 from the foul line.

Our Lady (11-6) will now await their fate to see if they have qualified for the District 3 Playoffs.
