Youth Football Weekly Round-Up: September 14, 2023

This feature recaps last weekend’s action from the youth football organizations that chose to partner with LebCoSports.com.  Much of the reporting below is written by the dedicated volunteers within these organizations.

     Falcon Youth Football

Red Rose Midget Football League Age group information

The Falcon “C” Team relied heavily on Torrance Hubbard, but it was definitely a total team victory for their second straight win.  Torrance had the only score of the game with a five-yard run with four minutes left in 4^th quarter.  The extra point was no good, but that score was all the Falcon defense would need.  The entire defense was strong all day long, led by the efforts of Jaden Rosenthal, Gianni Rodriguez, Jojo Malandra, Tate Speraw, Kayden Martinez and Torrance Hubbard, among others.  However, E-town did create some excitement all the way until the end the game when they drove all the way down the field on their final possession.  With twenty seconds left in the game, they attempted a pass on 4^th and 3, but it was again Torrance  who saved the day with an amazing one-handed interception to seal the win for the Falcons.

The Falcon “D” Team engaged in defensive battle with Elizabethtown on Saturday. Both teams were holding strong not allowing either team to put points on the board.  That all changed when Chase Reesman ripped off a monster 70-yard run allowing the Falcons to strike first. Quarterback Mason Kleinfelter ran the extra point in giving the Falcons a 7-0 lead going into halftime. The Falcon defense, led by defensive tackle Boston Speece came out tough in the 2nd half. Speece would force a fumble that was recovered by Cameron Eggert to give the ball back to the Falcons.  Unfortunately, the offense couldn’t capitalize on the turnover and possession went back to E-Town. A few big plays by E-Town put the game away and the Falcons came up short with a final score of 19-7.

Up Next:  The Falcons will be on the road for the 3rd straight week when they travel to take on Hempfield whose “C” team lost in a 4OT game with Columbia last week.

Despite the loss, the Falcon “B” Team was not without some exciting plays.

The Falcon “C” Team relied on a tough, total team defensive effort to win their game.

Midgets (0-3)    Stallions 51, Raiders 25

After having forfeited the first two weeks, the Raider Midgets returned to play.  They promptly found themselves in a back-and-forth contest throughout the 1^st half before the Stallions broke away in the 2^nd half.  For the Raiders, Sincere Burrus threw three touchdowns, with Xzavier Baker on the receiving end for two of them.  Burrus also held it down at the safety spot and had plenty of tackles.  While they lost 51-25, the squad only fielded eleven players who pushed through until the end.

The Raider Ponies did not let a rain delay slow them down or prevent them from leaving Waynesboro with a win.  With the score tied 0-0 late in the 4^th quarter, it came down to the wire with Mcdade Burrus finding the end zone for the Raiders.  There were a lot of big plays and runs from Bryson Miller and Trae Quinones.  The duo provided plenty of tackles by the duo as well. Patrick Fields came up with a key interception in the defensive effort.. With the first win of the season, many expect the energy to shift for this team.

The Raider Peewees engaged in a hard fought battle with the Stallions, but came up short in the end. Even though they left the field with a loss, there were some sparks on both sides of the ball. Denzel Fermin broke a 60-yard touchdown run. Elijah Grose and Jayzion Rosa each had some great runs for the team as well. Kahseem Oduro held it down at his defensive end spot, shutting his side of the field with plenty of tackles. The game was tied 6-6 at the end of regulation and went into OT. The Stallions had the ball first and were able to score. The Raiders stopped them for the extra point, then had a chance to score.  Unfortunately, the Stallion defense came up big and intercepted a pass to end the game. It was an intense game, which the Raiders almost pulled out.

For the Raider Smurfs it was a tough game, but they continued to play until the end.  They did not score any touchdowns, but this does not mean that there were not some flashes for the young group. Donovan Smith and Xzayvion Baker got loose on a few runs, creating excitement for all those involved. Donavon was also holding it down on the defensive side as well making plenty of tackles.

Up Next: The Raiders will be on the road Saturday when they visit Northern Lebanon.

     Myerstown Panthers

Midget (1-0)      Panthers 12, Muhlenberg 6

Mighty Mites (1-0)    Panthers 26, Conrad Weiser 8

This past Sunday, the Myerstown Midgets opened its 2023 campaign at Myerstown’s Reager Field when they battled against the Muhlenberg Mules, the defending BAYFL champs. Myerstown lost to the Mules in the season finale 27-0, but this year started off a little different.  The Mules scored first on Sunday taking a 6-0 lead after their second possession. The game stayed at 6-0 until early in the 3^rd quarter when Myerstown punched in a rushing touchdown to tie it up at 6-6.  Late in the 4^th quarter, with less than three minutes remaining on the clock, Myerstown’s quarterback Jadyn Rivera completed a pass to slot back Brody Dove for a 37-yard completion to take them down to the 1 yard-line.  Running back Dale Kohr Jr. punched in the 1-yard run to give the Panthers the lead.  Sabriel Remlinger recovered the ensuing kickoff to keep the Mules offense off the field and seal the Week 1 victory, 12-6.

The Myerstown Mites waited out a weather delay before being able to start the second half of play.  They did not let the delay slow down their efforts and defeated Conrad Weiser by a score of 21-0.

The Myerstown Mighty Mites played through a rainy evening and out lasted the Scouts from Weiser by a score of 26-8.

Up Next: The Panthers will be at home on Sunday when they host Kutztown, with the games beginning at 1 pm.
