Track & Field: Palmyra, Lebanon Medal 42 Times at Blue Streak Relays

Under sunny skies and cool temperatures on Saturday, Lebanon and Palmyra traveled to Manheim Township for the Blue Streak Relays, joining a 12-team field for one of the final tune-ups before the postseason stretch begins.

With the top 6 finishers in each event earning medals, Lebanon County athletes and relay teams combined for 42 medal finishes, including 5 gold medals. Palmyra collected individual victories from Emily Bearinger in the girls 400m, Chelsea Herr in the girls 800m, Jaxton Barger in the boys pole vault, and Josh Tshudy in the boys discus, while Lebanon’s Cayleigh Shaak won the girls long jump.

In the team standings, Palmyra placed 3rd in the girls competition with 78 points, while Lebanon finished 7th with 33. On the boys side, Palmyra was 4th with 60 points, while Lebanon tied for 9th with 25. Host Manheim Township swept the team titles, winning the girls championship with 139 points and the boys championship with 120.

Girls Results

Palmyra’s girls delivered two individual victories and several more medal-winning efforts. Emily Bearinger won the 400m in 1:00.50 and also placed 5th in the 100m in 13.50, while Chelsea Herr won the 800m in 2:30.18. The Cougars also received a 2nd-place finish from Jericho Church in the 3200m in 12:45.77, a 3rd-place finish from Mariah Dupreein the 400m in 1:02.28, and a 3rd-place finish from the 4×100 Shuttle Hurdles team of Dixie Martin, Natalie Yi, Izzy Weber, and Leah Line in 1:21.53.

Lebanon was led by Cayleigh Shaak, who put together one of the best all-around local performances of the meet. Shaak won the long jump at 16’1.25″, placed 2nd in the 100m in 13.10, and finished 2nd in the triple jump at 33’4.5″. Natalina Harrison added medals in both the high jump at 4’2″ and triple jump at 31’4.25″, while Lebanon’s 4×200 Relay team of Cynthia Barbour, Jannie Pendachecko, Lourdes Ramos, and Julianiliz Vazquez placed 5th in 2:14.03.

Beyond the Lebanon County highlights, Lampeter-Strasburg’s Brooke Vinelli was one of the top performers on the girls side, winning both the 100m in 13.07 and the 200m in 26.55 while also running on the winning 4×200 Relay team. Milton Hershey’s Yayey Dukuly also doubled up in the field, winning the high jump at 5’2″ and the triple jump at 34’7.5″.

Boys Results

Palmyra’s boys were especially strong in the field events, where Jaxton Barger won the pole vault by clearing 14’6″ and Josh Tshudy won the discus with a throw of 147’4″. Tshudy also placed 4th in the shot put at 44’3″, while Emerson Bucks took 3rd in the pole vault at 11’6″, Jake Schelhorn placed 3rd in the javelin at 126’11”, and Evan Mosser finished 2nd in the triple jump at 39’11.5″.

Lebanon’s boys had several medal-winning efforts on the track and in the jumps. Darryl Watson Rivera placed 3rd in the 200m in 23.95, with Davonte Montanez also medaling in 5th in 24.29. Jovannie Martinez finished 2nd in the 3200m in 10:24.67, while Ayden Ortiz placed 4th in the long jump at 20’1.5″ and Yassine Hakam placed 5th at 19’8″. Hakam added another medal in the triple jump, finishing 5th at 39’0″.

The boys meet also featured strong multi-event performances from Central Dauphin East. Marcus Williamson swept the 100m in 11.37 and 200m in 23.24, while Rodger Nguyen won both the long jump at 22’5.25″ and triple jump at 43’5″ and also ran on Central Dauphin East’s 2nd-place 4×200 Relay team.

Palmyra will finish up its dual meet schedule on Monday when it hosts Susquehanna Township. The Cougar girls will be looking to win their 2nd straight Keystone Championship before both teams turn their attention to next weekend’s Mid Penn Championship Meet.
