Furmanski’s 1600m Win Leads Cedar Crest, ELCO Medalists at Hoka Henderson Invitational
On Friday, the 22nd Annual Hoka Henderson Invitational took place at West Chester Henderson High School, bringing together one of the deepest regular-season fields in the region. The meet has become one of the area’s premier events and this year drew competitors from 93 high school programs from across Pennsylvania and Delaware, with athletes looking to sharpen up ahead of the postseason push.
Among the teams in attendance were Cedar Crest and ELCO from Lebanon County, along with several other Lancaster Lebanon League programs, including Conestoga Valley, Ephrata, Garden Spot, Hempfield, McCaskey, Octorara, Penn Manor, Solanco, and Warwick. With next week’s Lancaster Lebanon League Championship Meet set for Hempfield, Friday’s invite offered one more high-level tune-up before the focus shifts fully to championship season.
The top story from a Lebanon County perspective belonged to Cedar Crest senior Travis Furmanski, who won the boys 1600m in 4:16.17. Furmanski, the reigning PIAA cross country state champion, closed hard with a final lap of 1:01.8 to secure the victory. The time currently ranks among the top 10 in Pennsylvania this season and gave Lebanon County its lone gold medal of the meet.
Overall, Cedar Crest and ELCO combined for 10 top-8 medal finishes, with Cedar Crest earning eight of those and ELCO adding two relay medals.
Girls Results
Cedar Crest senior Eliana Schneider continued her strong season by earning two individual medals. Schneider placed 2nd in the High Jump with a clearance of 5’3″, then added an 8th-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:16.84.
The Falcons also picked up two medals in the girls 3200m, where Clara Schneider placed 4th in 12:19.01 and Sophie Meli finished 7th in 12:31.63. Cedar Crest added another medal in the 4×800 Relay, placing 6th in 10:37.07.
ELCO’s girls also reached the medal stand in the 4×800 Relay, finishing 8th in 10:57.68. The Raiders also had several athletes compete across the sprint, hurdle, jump, and throwing events, including Seyitan Adewale, Bre Etherson, Ava Stewart, Ava Seifert, and Alexa Shanaman.
Boys Results
Cedar Crest’s boys were led by Furmanski, whose 1600m win highlighted a strong distance showing for the Falcons. Henry Wengert also earned a medal in the 1600m, placing 7th in 4:44.02, while Zachary Margut narrowly missed the medal stand with a 9th-place finish in 4:23.33. Wyatt Wolfe added a 21st-place finish in 4:29.11, giving Cedar Crest impressive depth in one of the meet’s strongest events.
The Falcons also reached the podium in the 4×100 Relay, placing 7th in 43.15. That effort added another medal to Cedar Crest’s total and came in a loaded sprint field.
ELCO’s top boys finish came in the 4×800 Relay, where the Raiders placed 6th in 8:21.44. That gave ELCO a medal in one of the meet’s premier relay events and highlighted a solid day for the Raiders’ boys distance group.
