Lantz Sends Palmyra Past Red Land in Overtime Thriller
On Thursday evening, Palmyra hosted Red Land looking to keep its late-season momentum rolling. The Cougars entered the matchup seeking their 3rd straight win, and while it took an extra period to get there, they delivered in thrilling fashion with a 9-8 overtime victory.
Ava Lantz led the way for Palmyra with four goals, including the game-winner in overtime, lifting the Cougars to another important win as the postseason draws closer. Grace Frew added two goals, giving Palmyra another key offensive spark in a game where every possession mattered.
The Cougars also received balanced production from Ella Detwiler, who finished with one goal and two assists, while Bella Kenes and Lily Ferretti each added a goal to help Palmyra stay within striking distance before finishing the job in overtime.
Defensively, Savannah Epler came through with nine saves in goal, helping the Cougars withstand Red Land’s push and giving Palmyra the chance to win it late.
With the victory, Palmyra improved to 13-4 and will finish the regular season Monday on the road at Bishop McDevitt before turning its attention to the District 3 Playoffs.
The Palmyra Boys also defeated Red Land on Thursday, though in far less dramatic fashion, rolling to a 17-1 victory. The Cougar boys finished the regular season with a 12-6 record.
