Cevette Walk-Off Double Helps Cedar Crest Snap Skid Against McCaskey

On Saturday afternoon, Cedar Crest hosted McCaskey in a game that was rescheduled from earlier in the week. The change in schedule gave the Falcons a chance to move quickly beyond Friday’s tough loss to Northern Lebanon.

They made the most of it, as Mason Cevette delivered a walk-off double in the bottom of the 7th to lift Cedar Crest to a dramatic 4-3 victory over McCaskey.

McCaskey opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd, using two singles to take an early lead. Shanahan Padin singled to bring in the first run, helping the Red Tornado grab a 2-0 advantage.

Cedar Crest answered in the bottom half of the 2nd. Skyler Sherman singled down the left-field line, driving in two runs to tie the game and bring the Falcons back even.

The Falcons moved in front in the bottom of the 5th when Brayden Dorshimer singled to score a run, giving Cedar Crest a 3-2 lead. McCaskey responded in the top of the 7th, tying the game at three after Andrew Carlisle lined out to bring in the equalizer.

That set up Cevette in the bottom of the 7th, and he ended it with a double that scored Dorshimer for the winning run.

Mason Copenhaver earned the win in relief, allowing no hits and one unearned run over one inning while striking out one. Tyler Toscano started on the mound for Cedar Crest and gave the Falcons six strong innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out two and walking two.

Cedar Crest collected ten hits in the win. Sherman drove in two runs from the bottom of the lineup, while Dorshimer, Isaac Kreider, Cevette, and Chase Norris each had two hits. The Falcons also turned two double plays.

For McCaskey, Padin, Nikoli Bergeron, Deniel Santana, Fabian Hernandez, J Quinones, and Armani Acevedo each had one hit. Padin and Acevedo each drove in one run.

Cedar Crest (7-10) snapped a seven-game losing streak with the thrilling victory. The Falcons will now make their final three-game playoff push beginning Monday with a road game at Manheim Township.
