Palmyra Girls Top Lower Dauphin, Boys Battle in Rainy Keystone Dual
On Wednesday, Palmyra traveled to face Lower Dauphin in a Mid Penn Keystone dual meet that was marked by cool rain moving across Central Pennsylvania. Even with less-than-ideal conditions, the Cougars turned in several strong performances across the track and field events as they continued their push toward the postseason portion of the schedule.
Palmyra split the dual meet with Lower Dauphin, with the Cougar girls earning an 84-66 victory and the boys battling in a 74-67 loss.
Girls Recap: Palmyra 84, Lower Dauphin 66
Palmyra’s girls had several major highlights, led by Maddy Waldron, who swept the sprint events. Waldron won the 100m in 12.46, followed by victories in the 200m in 26.03 and the 400m in 58.88. Emily Bearinger added a 3rd-place finish in the 100m, while Ella Stuart was 3rd in the 400m.
The Cougars also had a strong day in the relays, winning all three girls relay events. Palmyra took the 4x100m Relay in 50.94, the 4x400m Relay in 4:10.54, and the 4x800m Relay in 10:29.79.
In the distance events, Amber McCurdy won the 1600m in 5:35.53 before returning to place 2nd in the 3200m. Chelsea Herr added a 2nd-place finish in the 800m, while Jericho Church was 3rd in the 3200m.
In the field events, Caleigha Mull won the High Jump at 4’7″, while Isabella Owens won the Triple Jump with a mark of 32’5″ and added a 2nd-place finish in the Long Jump. Shayla Carl had a big day in the throws, winning the Javelin with a mark of 97’11”, placing 2nd in the Shot Put, and finishing 3rd in the Discus. Ashton Brandt added a 2nd-place finish in the Javelin.
Lower Dauphin was led by several strong performances of its own. Nova Mayer swept the hurdles, winning the 100m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles, while also finishing 3rd in the 200m. Sadie Giampetro won both the Pole Vault and Long Jump, while Ashley Sather, Jetta Speck, Aurora Speck, and Brynn Woodall also picked up individual wins.

Boys Recap: Lower Dauphin 74, Palmyra 67
On the boys side, Palmyra put together several strong performances, especially in the jumps, distance events, and relays. Nathan Keiner won the 800m in 2:05.67 and later placed 3rd in the 1600m, while Cornelius Cummings edged out Lower Dauphin’s Michael Sather by one-hundredth of a second to win the 1600m in 4:34.53.
The Cougars also picked up relay wins in the 4x100m and 4x800m. Palmyra won the 4x100m Relay in 44.27 and the 4x800m Relay in 9:24.84, while Lower Dauphin took the 4x400m Relay in 3:42.07.
Palmyra’s field-event depth produced several of the team’s top moments. The Cougars swept the High Jump, with Weston Weaver winning at 5’9″, followed by Evan Mosser and Brice Pallozzi. Connor Anderson won the Long Jump at 19’0.75″, with Jaxton Barger finishing 2nd. Evan Mosser added a win in the Triple Jump at 40’1.75″, while Josh Tshudy won the Discus with a throw of 135’3″.
In the sprints, Travis McDannell was 2nd in both the 100m and 200m, while Aaron Villafane placed 3rd in both races. Roman Wamsher added a 3rd-place finish in the 400m. In the hurdles, Dacian Hutchinson placed 2nd in both the 110m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles, while Michael Cooper was 3rd in the 110m Hurdles and Eric Hossler was 3rd in the 300m Hurdles.
Lower Dauphin was paced by Elan Goeke, who won the 100m and 200m while also placing 2nd in the 400m. Thaddeus Shradley swept the hurdle events, winning the 110m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles. The Falcons also showed strength in the throws, sweeping the top three spots in Shot Put and claiming 1st and 2nd in Javelin.

What’s Next?
Palmyra’s girls are now 5-1, while the boys are 3-3. The Cougars will compete Saturday at the Blue Streak Relays at Manheim Township, then conclude their dual meet season Monday at home against Susquehanna Township before turning their attention to next weekend’s Mid Penn Championship Meet.
