Penn Manor Sweeps Lebanon as Cedars Continue to Build in Section 1 Action

Chilly, windy conditions greeted Lebanon and Penn Manor on Monday as the weather turned sharply back toward a winter feel after the early-summer stretch experienced across the region last week. The Cedars hit the road for another tough Section 1 test against one of the L-L League’s established programs.

Penn Manor claimed both ends of the dual, topping Lebanon 126-23 in the girls meet and 95-54 in the boys meet. While the team scores went to the Comets, the Cedars continued to show progress with a handful of event wins and several strong individual performances.

Girls Recap: Penn Manor 126, Lebanon 23

Penn Manor controlled most of the girls meet, especially on the track, but Lebanon did come away with a few bright spots in the field. Cayleigh Shaak delivered a strong day for the Cedars by winning the Long Jump at 16’1.25″ and adding a third-place finish in the Triple Jump at 30’8.25″.

Lebanon also got a first-place finish from Natalina Harrison, who won the Triple Jump with a mark of 31’1.75″. Harrison also added a second-place finish in the High Jump by clearing 4’8″, while Olive Brandt picked up team points with a third-place finish in the 300m Hurdles in 52.2 and another third-place showing in the Long Jump at 14’0.5″.

On the track, the Cedars were led by Alianis Ortiz Del Valle, who placed second in the 400m in 1:15.9, and Jalyssa Aviles, who followed in third at 1:17.2. Lumpkin added a runner-up finish in the Shot Put at 28’0.75″ to round out Lebanon’s scoring highlights.

Penn Manor’s depth was the difference throughout the girls meet. The Comets swept the top three spots in the 100m, 1600m, 800m, 200m, Pole Vault, Javelin, and Discus, while also winning all three relays.

Boys Recap: Penn Manor 95, Lebanon 54

The Lebanon boys turned in a more competitive showing and picked up several event wins against the Comets. Thadeous Gilbert had one of the best days for the Cedars, winning the 400m in 52.7 and helping set the tone for a boys team that continued to battle throughout the meet.

Lebanon also showed strength in the middle-distance events. Samuel Hershey won the 800m in 2:10.2 and later added a first-place finish in the 3200m at 12:32.3. Jovannie Martinez contributed a second-place finish in the 1600m in 4:48.9, took third in the 800m, and finished second in the 3200m.

In the field, Ayden Hakam gave Lebanon a big lift by winning the Triple Jump with a mark of 40’1.5″ and also taking third in the Long Jump at 19’3.25″. Camron Buchmoyer and Tyler Reigle added valuable points in the throws, finishing second and third in the Shot Put, while Reigle also placed second in the Discus.

The Cedars also picked up relay victories in both the 4x800m Relay and 4x400m Relay. Lebanon’s 4x800m team of Jovannie Martinez, Andy Suarez, Angel Miranda, and Trystan Steckbeck won in 10:57.9, while the 4x400m team of Trystan Steckbeck, Malachi Briddell, Nahzyil Thomas, and Davonte Montanez closed the meet with a win in 3:52.

Penn Manor’s biggest edge came in the sprints, hurdles, and several field events. The Comets swept the top three spots in both hurdle races, the 100m, 200m, High Jump, and Javelin, which allowed them to build enough separation to take the team victory.
