Annville-Cleona Battles Camp Hill Before Falling in District Quarterfinals

After upsetting Hanover in the 1st round of the PIAA District 3 Class AA Team Tennis Tournament, Annville-Cleona earned a trip to face #2-seeded Camp Hill in Thursday’s quarterfinal round. The Dutchmen pushed the higher-seeded Lions throughout the match, but Camp Hill came away with a 3-2 win to advance.

In singles play, Travis Hostetter delivered a strong performance at #1 singles, earning a 7-6(5), 6-0 victory over Sam Sachs to give Annville-Cleona one of its two points. Camp Hill answered at #2 singles, where Hugo Poppy defeated Augustus Giurintano 7-5, 6-3.

At #3 singles, Camp Hill picked up another point as Wyatt Lentz defeated Isaac Hostetter 6-0, 6-1.

The doubles matches were split, with both contests going three sets. At #1 doubles, Brent Meyer and Emilio Fuentes Garcia battled Ben Dade and Luke Logenbach before Camp Hill pulled out a 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 win.

At #2 doubles, George Maag and Nicholas Leonard came through for the Dutchmen, defeating Yonneth Albino-Colon and Miller Nelson 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.

The loss ends Annville-Cleona’s team season, with the Dutchmen finishing with a 10-6 record. However, Hostetter and Giurintano will have their seasons continue on Friday when they compete in the District 3 Singles Tournament.
