Annville-Cleona Upsets Hanover to Advance in District 3 Tournament
Annville-Cleona entered the PIAA District 3 Class AA Team Tournament as the #10 seed following a 9-5 regular season, earning a 1st-round road matchup against #7 Hanover on Tuesday afternoon. The Dutchmen made the most of the opportunity, picking up a 4-1 win to keep their postseason run alive.
Annville-Cleona claimed two of the three singles matches, with Travis Hostetter earning a 6-4, 6-3 win over Yahir Corona at #1 singles. Hanover picked up its lone point at #2 singles, where Cullen Nakienly defeated Augustus Giurintano 7-5, 6-3.
The Dutchmen came through with a key three-set win at #3 singles, as Isaac Hostetter battled back after dropping the opening set to defeat Noah Chronister 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Annville-Cleona also swept the doubles matches to finish off the victory. At #1 doubles, Brent Meyer and Emilio Fuentes Garcia earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Zeke Abell and Fouad Desai. At #2 doubles, George Maag and Nicholas Leonard added another point with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Brody Roos and Justin Solorzano.
With the win, Annville-Cleona advances to the District 3 Class AA quarterfinals. The upset-minded Dutchmen will now travel on Thursday to face #2-seeded Camp Hill.
