Long Throws Shutout as Northern Lebanon Extends Winning Streak to 13

Northern Lebanon kept its unbeaten run going Monday night.

Playing at Earl Wagner Memorial Ballpark in Fredericksburg on senior night, the Vikings rolled to a 9-0 win over Lancaster Mennonite behind a complete-game shutout from Aidan Long. The victory pushed Northern Lebanon’s winning streak to 13 and improved the Vikings to 13-0 on the season.

Lancaster Mennonite threatened right away with a pair of 1st-inning singles, including one on a bunt, but Long worked out of trouble early. Richard Adams helped cut down a runner on the bases, and Long ended the inning with a strikeout to keep the game scoreless.

The Vikings left traffic on the bases in the 1st, but they broke through in the bottom of the 3rd. Kaden Beamesderferstarted the inning with a double, and later in the frame Northern Lebanon took a 2-0 lead when an outfield error opened the door for the first runs of the night.

Long continued to settle in from there. After another scoreless inning in the 4th, Northern Lebanon blew the game open in the 5th with a 5-run outburst. Chase Mohn delivered the biggest hit of the inning with a bases-clearing double that plated 3 runs, Long followed with an RBI single, and Andrew Via added a run-scoring groundout as the Vikings stretched the lead to 7-0.

Northern Lebanon tacked on 2 more runs in the 6th. Beamesderfer and Owen Fahringer both reached to help set the table, and Adrian Gonzalez came through with an RBI single as the Vikings added the finishing touches.

That was more than enough support for Long, who dominated from start to finish. The senior threw a complete-game shutout, allowing 8 hits while walking none and striking out 11. He closed it out in emphatic fashion too, striking out 3 in the 7th.

“I did what I have to do, came out felt good and threw good today,” said Long.

At the plate, Beamesderfer led Northern Lebanon with 3 hits in 4 at-bats and scored 3 runs. Long and Gonzalez each had multiple hits, while Mohn, the Vikings’ No. 7 hitter, drove in 3 runs. Northern Lebanon finished with 9 hits, turned a double play, and played a clean defensive game without committing an error. Adams led the way defensively with 12 chances.

“Seniors came together today and really proved how we can bond as a team and get the job done together,” said Adams.

Lancaster Mennonite collected 8 hits in the loss, with Asher Kenkelen and Jackson Snader each recording 2 hits. Kenkelen took the loss after allowing 7 runs over 5 innings.
