On Tuesday evening, the Palmyra Lady Cougars traveled north on 81 to take on Crestwood, the District 2 Champs, for the 1st Round of the PIAA State Championship Tournament.

The game was a defensive struggle throughout, with the two teams combining for ten shots. This resulted in a 0-0 tie at the half.

Halfway through the 3rd quarter, Jovie Weaver broke the stalemate, scoring on an assist by Hadley Hoffsmith. Three minutes later, Crestwood’s Kylah Kelly knotted the game one a piece.

With five minutes remaining in regulation and the score tied 1-1 in the 4th quarter, Mallory Hudson converted on an assist by Weaver to give the Lady Cougars the lead they needed for the victory.

In the game, Palmyra outshot Crestwood 7-3. Abby Bennett made two saves to keep Crestwood at bay.

Palmyra will now head to the Quarterfinals, where they will play Mount St. Joseph in a game that will be held on Saturday, November 9th, at a location that is TBD. Mount St. Joseph finished 2nd in District 1, while Palmyra was 3rd in District 3.
