Bowling: ELCO’s Kline Repeats as Lancaster Lebanon Champion – Full LebCo Results

On Monday, the Lancaster Lebanon Girls Bowling Championship was held at Clearview Lanes. Of the thirty participants who met the qualifying standard, three wore uniforms of LebCo schools. The local representatives were Morgan Kline (ELCO), Alexa Lopez (Lebanon), and Paxton Horner (Northern Lebanon).

While there would be intense competition, the big question on everyone’s mind is if Kline, the 2023 Champion, could successfully defend her title. The Wichita State commit had a tremendous senior season, leading all of Section 3 on average. However, it was a tough field that contained many of the top bowlers from last year, including Warwick’s Taylor Miller, whom Kline defeated in the 2023 Finals. One thing that Kline has going for her better than most is consistency. That attribute is needed in a tournament like this, where she would have to roll six solid games to make it into the Finals to have a chance at winning gold again.

Through the first two games, Kline was in 2nd place. Solid competition through three rounds knocked her back to 7th place and threatened to derail her chances at a repeat title. The unflappable Kline quickly recovered to roll a 231 on her way to finishing the qualifying rounds back in 2nd place.

The 2nd place finish earned Kline a bye until the semifinal round. It was in that round that she earned a 190-171 win over Elizabethtown’s Ella Eberle. This win in the semifinal round set up a rematch with Taylor Miller. The Warwick star was in 1st place heading to the finals, which earned her a bye until the game against Kline. While it was a close game, Kline prevailed with a 212-199 victory to earn gold.

Lebanon’s Lopez finished 15th overall after battling a slow start before finishing strong with a 202 in her last game. Northern Lebanon’s Horner finished 23rd overall.

Next up in the world of postseason bowling is the District 3 Championships on February 24th. Districts will be followed up the next weekend by Regionals, which serves as a qualifier for States.
