2023 League Championship Tennis Results

Over the past week, the Mid Penn and the Lancaster Lebanon League dodged rain clouds to play their Singles and Doubles Championship Tournaments.  The Lancaster Lebanon League wrapped up its tournament on Monday, with the Mid Penn finishing up on Tuesday.  These tournaments were not the only championship tennis to be played this week, as the Lebanon County Tennis Championships were also played on Tuesday.

The top flights of the league championships were used to determine who qualified for the District 3 Championships.  The Singles competition begins Friday (brackets can be found here).

Mid Penn Conference

During the regular season, Palmyra won the Keystone Division of the Mid Penn Conference.  In this tournament, Palmyra showed off their talent, led by the defending PIAA State Doubles Champions, Aidan and Tyler Mahaffey.  Aidan defeated Tyler for the Singles Championship, while they were once again together to win the Doubles title.  All of the other Cougars who competed were able to advance at last one round, with Mitchell Wise making it to the semifinals of the 3rd Flight.

Lancaster Lebanon League

During the regular season, Cedar Crest was a force to be reckoned with.  In this tournament, they had four Singles players in the top flight.  Viseth Meng was able to make it all the way into the Finals before losing to the defending champion from Hempfield.  In Doubles, it was two Cedar Crest teams who squared off in the finals with Meng and Charlie Robbins coming out on top after a hard fought battle with the Shkreli brothers.  In a show of their depth, the Doubles pairing of Ryan Glover and Ben Sheffield were the winners of the 2nd Flight.

Cedar Crest was not the only school to find success at this tournament.  Among the most notable highlights was Annville-Cleona’s Matej Hrncir, who was the runner-up in the 3rd Flight of Singles.

Lebanon County Tennis Championships

On Tuesday afternoon, the weather was finally good enough for the Lebanon County Tennis Championships to take place after having been previously delayed three times. Palmyra pulled a double-duty having competed in the Mid Penn Championships earlier in the day before arriving to play in South Lebanon.  In the end, it was all Cedar Crest versus Palmyra in the Finals match-ups. With a split in the victories, the two teams were declared Lebanon County Co-Champions.
