Boys Basketball Outlook: New Covenant

Last year’s New Covenant squad set the school record for the most wins in a season, going 14-6 in the regular season.  This stellar win total not only qualified them for both the CCAC Playoffs, but also the District 3 Playoffs.  This ended a seven season playoff drought that New Covenant had endured.  To put this in perspective, during the ‘18-’19 season, the Flames registered two wins.  Much of this rise was due to the development of senior leaders, many of whom graduated following the ‘21-’22 campaign.

However, Coach Matt Kantner feels that the Flames still have the talent to continue improving on what they did last season.  The players that New Covenant is returning have had an opportunity to come back with more experience and maturity.  In fact, the Flames are returning nine of their twelve from last year.   Among those players is senior Ben Hartman (the all-State soccer player), who will make a run at becoming a 1,000 point scorer at New Covenant after starting his high school career at Lebanon Catholic.  While a prolific scorer, Hartman will not be alone in this effort.  Creating a dual threat for this team is junior Juan Torres, who will look to create a dilemma for opposing defenses.  If this team can continue its improvement, they could be making a multi-round run in the District 3 Playoffs.
