Final Spots, Bubble Drama and a Late Football Push

With the fall regular season reaching its final days, the District 3 Power Rankings are beginning to look more and more like the postseason fields that will eventually be set. However, one important distinction remains: unless a sport’s official cutoff date has already passed, the current rankings are not final.

That means teams can still move based on their own remaining results, as well as changes to the strength-of-schedule portion of the District 3 formula. The current standings are still extremely useful, though, because they provide a strong indication of which teams are in good position, which ones are on the bubble, and which ones still need help.

Several Lebanon County teams have put themselves in excellent shape. Palmyra field hockey remains No. 1 in Class 2A, while Annville-Cleona field hockey sits seventh in Class 1A. Northern Lebanon girls volleyball continues to hold the No. 2 position in Class 4A, with ELCO climbing to third in the same classification.

Football provided one of the biggest developments of the week. Annville-Cleona moved from sixth to fourth in Class 3A, putting the Dutchmen directly on the four-team qualifying line with two games remaining. Cedar Crest also strengthened its position, moving from seventh to sixth in Class 6A. The Falcons remain comfortably inside a 12-team postseason field.

The 4A football race remains much tighter. Northern Lebanon moved up to 12th, while ELCO sits 13th. With only the top 10 advancing, both still need movement over the final two weeks. Palmyra improved to 16th in Class 5A, where 12 teams qualify, leaving the Cougars with work to do but still time remaining.

The soccer picture is much closer to settling. Cedar Crest boys soccer sits sixth in Class 4A, while ELCO is 11th and Palmyra 14th in Class 3A. All three currently sit inside their respective 16-team qualifying fields. New Covenant is 10th in Class 1A, where 12 teams advance.

On the girls side, several Lebanon County teams remain close to the line. Palmyra sits 13th in Class 4A, while Northern Lebanon remains eighth in Class 2A, exactly on the qualifying cutoff. Cedar Crest and ELCO are each sitting 17th in classifications that take 16 teams, while New Covenant is 11th in a 10-team Class 1A field. Those rankings can still change before the official soccer cutoff.

As the remaining cutoff dates arrive, those rankings will transition from a snapshot into the official list of District 3 qualifiers. Until then, they should be viewed as a very strong indicator of where each team is likely to fall, rather than as a finalized postseason field.

Below, check out the complete Lebanon County breakdown, including each team’s record, current ranking, previous ranking, classification, contests remaining, and the number of District 3 qualifiers.

When Will the Rankings Be Finalized?

District 3 determines its postseason qualifiers based on the rankings in place at each sport’s official Cut off Date. Until that date is reached, teams can still move up or down in the standings.

  • Field Hockey — October 21: Current rankings remain subject to change until the cutoff. District 3 currently lists 14 qualifiers in 3A, 16 in 2A, and 14 in 1A.
  • Girls Volleyball — October 21: The qualifying fields will be determined at the cutoff. District 3 currently takes 12 in 6A, 12 in 5A, eight in 4A, four in 3A, four in 2A, and eight in 1A.
  • Boys Soccer — October 22: The rankings remain open until then, with 16 qualifiers in 4A, 16 in 3A, eight in 2A, and 12 in 1A.
  • Girls Soccer — October 22: The postseason fields will be finalized at the cutoff, with 16 qualifiers in 4A, 16 in 3A, eight in 2A, and 10 in 1A.
  • Football — October 31: Football remains the most fluid of the remaining sports, with two regular-season weeks still capable of creating significant movement before the final rankings are locked. District 3 takes two teams in 1A, four in 2A, four in 3A, 10 in 4A, 12 in 5A, and 12 in 6A.
