Frederick, Bouchard Win Cardinal Clash Titles as Northern Lebanon Boys Take Second

Northern Lebanon came away from Saturday’s Cardinal Clash at Pine Grove Area High School with plenty of hardware, highlighted by individual championships from Anthony Frederick and Zoey Bouchard and a second-place trophy for the Vikings’ varsity boys team.

In addition to the two race victories, Owen Kelly, Mason Krall, Isaac Bruce, and Emeri Kreiser joined Frederick and Bouchard as top-20 award winners. Northern Lebanon also had two middle school boys earn top-20 recognition.

Varsity Boys

Anthony Frederick led a strong Northern Lebanon showing by winning the 71-runner varsity boys race in 17:18. Frederick finished 17 seconds ahead of Nativity’s Wyatt Hylka, who was second in 17:35, while Tamaqua’s Aidan Elston took third in 17:43.

The Vikings continued to place runners near the front. Owen Kelly finished sixth in 18:25 and Mason Krall was 10th in 18:48, giving Northern Lebanon three of the first 10 finishers.

Isaac Bruce and Emeri Kreiser also finished inside the top 20, earning individual awards and helping Northern Lebanon secure the second-place team trophy.

The Vikings finished with 41 points, just four behind team champion Nativity’s 37. Tamaqua was third with 57.

Varsity Girls

Zoey Bouchard completed Northern Lebanon’s sweep of the individual varsity championships, winning the girls race in 22:12.

Bouchard finished eight seconds ahead of Blue Mountain’s Nora Scheidel, who took second in 22:20. Tamaqua’s Peyton O’Brien was third in 22:30, followed by teammate Shaylee Gormley in fourth at 22:35.

Bouchard’s victory also earned her a top-20 finisher award and gave the Vikings an individual champion in each varsity race.

Tamaqua won the girls team championship with 43 points, followed by Blue Mountain with 65 and Hamburg with 74.

Middle School

Northern Lebanon’s success extended to the middle school races, where two Viking boys earned top-20 awards.

Blake Wise was one of those finishers, placing sixth in the 1.5-mile boys race with a time of 8:53. Tamaqua’s Jackson Koneschusky won the race in 8:17.

North Schuylkill’s Callie Macknis won the middle school girls race in 9:20.

Overall, the Cardinal Clash provided a strong Saturday for Northern Lebanon. Frederick and Bouchard brought home individual victories, six Viking varsity runners earned top-20 awards, two middle school runners added awards of their own, and the Northern Lebanon boys left Pine Grove with the second-place team trophy.
