Strasz Hat Trick Leads ELCO Past Garden Spot
After opening the season with a draw against Manheim Central on Saturday, ELCO’s girls soccer team broke into the win column Monday with an impressive 4-0 road victory over Garden Spot.
The Raiders grabbed the lead in the 12th minute when Alexis Strasz found the back of the net off an assist from Hadley Boyer. ELCO carried that 1-0 advantage into halftime despite a competitive opening 40 minutes that saw Garden Spot generate its share of opportunities.
ELCO created some breathing room after the break. Strasz struck again in the 56th minute to double the lead before Madison Nelson scored just two minutes later, quickly pushing the Raiders’ advantage to 3-0.
Strasz then completed the hat trick in the 64th minute, with Boyer picking up her second assist of the afternoon to finish off the scoring.
While the final margin was decisive, Garden Spot kept ELCO busy throughout the contest. The Spartans generated 12 shots compared to ELCO’s 14, while the Raiders held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Hayden Deck was up to the challenge in goal, making seven saves to preserve the shutout.
The victory moves ELCO to 1-0-1 through its first two games after Saturday’s tie with Manheim Central. The Raiders return home Wednesday when they welcome Lebanon.
