Northern Lebanon Tops Minersville Behind Rizzo’s 73

A day after competing in the second L-L League Section 3 match of the season, Northern Lebanon was right back on the course Tuesday for a unique non-league matchup with Minersville at the par-69 White Birch Golf Course.

As mentioned following Monday’s Section 3 action, the matchup had all the makings of a “Coach George Special.” Northern Lebanon golf coach Chris George also serves as the Minersville boys basketball coach during the winter, leading the Miners to the Schuylkill League Championship last season.

On Tuesday, it was George’s Vikings who came away with the victory.

Northern Lebanon posted a four-player score of 305 to defeat Minersville, which finished with a 337.

Leading the way was sophomore Christian Rizzo, who fired a four-over-par 73 for the lowest round of the day. Rizzo went out in 34 before coming home in 39 to earn medalist honors.

Junior Collin Padovani was right behind with a 75 (+6), while Jacob Anspach added a 79 (+10). Braden Demlercompleted Northern Lebanon’s four counting scores with an 83.

Minersville was led by Emma Troutman’s 76, while Trista Troutman shot a 93 and Sheldon Fickes added a 94.

For Northern Lebanon, the non-league victory came one day after the Vikings finished third at Highlands to move to 7-3 in Section 3 competition.
