ELCO Football Season Outlook
There is a mix of experience and youth at ELCO this fall, but the expectations surrounding the Raiders haven’t changed.
ELCO returns an experienced quarterback, four starters along the offensive line, several proven two-way contributors, and a larger roster that Head Coach Bob Miller believes can provide more depth than the Raiders have enjoyed in recent seasons.
Around that veteran core will be a younger group being asked to grow up quickly.
For senior quarterback Brinley Donmoyer, that’s part of the excitement.
“We’re really focused on the now instead of the future,” Donmoyer said. “We’re just focused on having fun, raising the standard and improving every day.”
Donmoyer returns to direct ELCO’s Veer offense after earning Second Team All-County honors at quarterback last fall. His experience is complemented by a veteran offensive front featuring seniors Collin Carpenter and Cody Landis, along with returning contributors Drew Winters and Jayden Garman.
That continuity up front should help an offense that also returns one of Lebanon County’s most productive young players.
Junior Gavin Yeiser emerged as a major weapon last season, rushing for 572 yards on 73 carries while adding 330 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns. This season, Yeiser wants his impact to extend beyond the stat sheet.
“My goal is to be a good leader for my teammates, do whatever I can to help us win,” Yeiser said.
Senior Griffin Kreider gives the Raiders another proven two-way presence after recording 116 tackles, six pass breakups and two interceptions on his way to First Team All-County honors at safety.
Kreider, Yeiser and Landis are all drawing college interest.
The Raiders do have significant production to replace. Paul Williams, Ellis Gensamer, Dalton Pyszka, Alejandro Weister, Hunter Mehaffey, James Kuhne, and Butch Savich have graduated after filling important roles across the lineup.
That creates opportunities for a younger group.
Darryl Legrande, Blake Legrande, Michael Seifert, Cameron Tillison, and Jonathan Zimmerman are among the returning players expected to take on larger responsibilities, while sophomores Dale Kohr and Noah Williams are two players Miller identified as potential immediate contributors.
Youth, however, isn’t something the Raiders are using as an excuse.
“What will surprise everyone is how physical we’ll be, especially being a young team,” Yeiser said. “We’ve been working every day.”
That physicality will be important defensively, where ELCO operates out of multiple looks and must replace several experienced players. Kreider and Yeiser return in the secondary, while Landis, Kaden Wagner, Tillison, Seifert and Zimmerman are among the pieces available throughout the front seven.
Miller believes the increased roster size should help. More players competing for roles means greater depth and flexibility on both sides of the ball, something ELCO hasn’t always possessed in recent seasons.
The biggest developmental question entering the season is special teams, an area Miller identified as the Raiders’ primary concern during the summer.
Beyond personnel, ELCO’s players continually return to another strength: the culture surrounding the program.
Kreider believes the Raiders’ ability to communicate and support one another separates them.
“Many teams have a divide between classes, but we make everyone feel welcome and praise each other for their efforts,” Kreider said.
For Kreider, that atmosphere has been evident throughout the offseason.
“My favorite part has been being able to be out there with my teammates working hard and seeing everyone bring energy to practice,” Kreider said.
That culture extends beyond football. Donmoyer pointed to a nutrition initiative in which players prepare sandwiches and snack bags for athletes who need them, an effort designed to make sure members of the school community have access to the nutrition they need.
For Donmoyer, one of his goals as a senior is helping the younger Raiders understand what ELCO Football is supposed to represent.
He isn’t particularly interested in predicting where that will take them in November.
“It’s not really about the end of the season,” Donmoyer said. “It’s about the right now.”
Kreider and Yeiser aren’t afraid to acknowledge the potential, though. Both believe this group is capable of reaching the postseason.
“By the end of the season I see this team making a deep playoff run and competing with everyone we face,” Kreider said.
Getting there will require navigating another challenging schedule.
ELCO opens with three non-league games against Boiling Springs, Dover and Fleetwood before beginning Section 4 competition at Conrad Weiser. The Raiders will then encounter a difficult stretch featuring Wyomissing, Daniel Boone, Octorara and Lampeter-Strasburg before finishing against Donegal and county rival Northern Lebanon.
There will also be a piece of program history sitting quietly in the background. Miller enters the season with 76 victories at ELCO, leaving him one win away from becoming the program’s all-time wins leader.
But that milestone can arrive whenever it arrives.
For this group, the emphasis is much closer to Donmoyer’s approach.
Focus on now. Raise the standard. Keep improving.
The Raiders get their first opportunity Friday night when Boiling Springs comes to Myerstown for the 2026 season opener.
