Dutchmen Open 2026 with Impressive Sweep

Gone from last year’s lineup are Logan Francis and Cian Soliday. Francis, in particular, left behind some big numbers to replace after finishing as the No. 2 golfer in Section 4 and placing 15th at the PIAA State Championships. He has since moved on to continue his golf career at the Naval Academy.

Their departures left the Dutchmen with an extremely young lineup surrounding senior Aidan Lezon. However, despite their youth, A-C also returned one very important piece at the top of that lineup.

Sophomore Benjamin Allwein entered the season already established as one of Pennsylvania’s top high school golfers. As a freshman, Allwein averaged 69.8 during Section 4 matches, finished as the section’s No. 1 golfer, and capped his first high school season with an eighth-place finish at the PIAA State Championships.

On Tuesday, Allwein picked up right where he left off. And this time, a young group of Dutchmen followed his lead.

Playing in favorable conditions at Bent Creek Country Club, Annville-Cleona opened the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 4 season by sweeping the field in a match hosted by Lancaster Catholic. The Dutchmen’s four counting scores totaled 316, 18 strokes better than both Lancaster Catholic and Pequea Valley, which tied for second at 334.

It was an impressive opening result for a program that knows just how competitive the Section 4 race can become.

A year ago, Annville-Cleona narrowly missed out on the Section 4 championship in a tight race with Pequea Valley. The Dutchmen later turned the tables by beating the Braves at the L-L League Championships. A-C also came within a playoff of advancing to the District team competition.

On Tuesday, the two teams renewed that competition, but this time the Dutchmen created plenty of separation.

Benjamin Allwein fired a two-over-par 73 to earn medalist honors, finishing three strokes ahead of Lancaster Catholic’s Ben Tomlinson, who carded a 76.

While Allwein’s performance provided some familiarity at the top of the leaderboard, one of the biggest developments for the Dutchmen came from another member of the Allwein family.

Freshman Jefferson Allwein made his Section 4 debut with a 77, finishing just four strokes behind Benjamin and tying Pequea Valley’s Max Hershey for third overall.

From there, the Dutchmen received two more top-seven rounds to create the difference in the team standings.

Sophomore Will Kerwin, who gained significant varsity experience during his freshman season, carded an 83. Senior Aidan Lezon, the lone senior in A-C’s young starting lineup, also shot an 83. The two tied Lancaster Catholic’s Max Straub for seventh overall.

With Benjamin Allwein’s 73 and Jefferson Allwein’s 77 leading the way, the matching 83s from Kerwin and Lezon completed A-C’s four counting scores and gave the Dutchmen a 316.

The depth at the top of the lineup proved to be the difference.

Lancaster Catholic was led by Tomlinson’s 76, Nolan Sweigert’s 80, and Straub’s 83, while Pequea Valley received a 77 from Hershey and an 80 from Logan Stoltzfus. Both teams finished at 334, 18 strokes behind A-C.

The Dutchmen also had two more freshmen gain experience in their first Section 4 match. Trey Schrefler shot a 93 to finish 14th overall, while Jameson Rabena finished with a 111.

For a team that entered the season needing to replace two important pieces from last year’s lineup, Tuesday offered an encouraging first look at the next version of Annville-Cleona golf.

Benjamin Allwein remained at the top of the leaderboard. Jefferson Allwein immediately emerged with one of the best rounds in the section. Kerwin and Lezon supplied two more scores inside the top seven.

Together, the Dutchmen put four golfers inside the top seven and opened the season by sweeping the Section 4 field.

The teams will square off again on Tuesday, August 25, when Lancaster Country Day hosts the second Section 4 match of the season at Conestoga Country Club.
