Cedar Crest Cruises Past McCaskey, Keeps Playoff Push Moving

Cedar Crest traveled to face McCaskey on Thursday and made sure the road trip ended early, using a fast start and steady pressure throughout the lineup to earn a 14-0 win in five innings.

Ali Groff helped Cedar Crest get moving in the 1st, as the Falcons took advantage of two McCaskey errors before Ava Rosario grounded out to bring home two runs. Kate Poorman then added an RBI single, helping Cedar Crest build a 5-0 lead before McCaskey had a chance to answer.

Mia Lutz kept the offense rolling in the 2nd, doubling to bring home two more runs before a passed ball added another run and pushed the lead to 8-0. The Falcons continued to put pressure on McCaskey throughout the inning, taking control early and giving themselves plenty of breathing room.

Jackie Funderburk added a double in the 3rd, and Elli Malinoski followed with a single as Cedar Crest continued to stretch the lead. The Falcons scored in each of the first five innings, finishing with 11 hits while also drawing five walks.

Addison Nolen took care of the rest in the circle, throwing five shutout innings while allowing three hits, striking out three, and walking none. Cedar Crest also played clean defense behind her, finishing without an error.

Lutz drove the middle of the lineup, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Poorman helped show the depth of the Falcons’ lineup, going 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Funderburk added two hits, two runs, and two RBI. Groff reached base three times, scoring twice while drawing two walks.

L. Martinez, K. Martin, and M. McCall each collected a hit for McCaskey. Martinez started in the circle and allowed eight runs, two earned, over two innings, while S. Balbuena worked the final three innings.

Cedar Crest (8-8) will be back in action on Friday afternoon when they host Northern Lebanon. With just three games remaining, the Falcons have a very good chance to make the District 3 Playoffs.
