Northern Lebanon Girls Win, Boys Fall in Tightly Fought Contests Against Lancaster Catholic

With warm temperatures in the low 70s and breezy conditions, Northern Lebanon made the trip to Lancaster Catholic on Monday for a dual meet that turned into a pair of tight contests.

When it was over, the Vikings came away with a split in dramatic fashion. Northern Lebanon’s girls pulled out a 76-73 win, while the boys came up just short in a 77-73 loss. After the closely contested meet, both Northern Lebanon teams are now 3-1.

Girls Recap: Northern Lebanon 76, Lancaster Catholic 73

Northern Lebanon’s girls did enough across the board to survive a deep Lancaster Catholic lineup, with strength in the hurdles, middle distance, relays, and jumps helping the Vikings squeeze out the narrow victory on the road.

Emily Weimer delivered a huge day in the throws, winning both the discus and javelin. Haley Oliver added a win in the 400m, Emily Marinkov claimed the 300m Hurdles, and Jobrianna Long took first in the 100m Hurdles and pole vault to give Northern Lebanon multiple event victories in key spots.

The Vikings also got first-place efforts from Mac Miller in the Triple Jump and the 4×400 Relay team. Northern Lebanon swept both the discus and triple jump, with Mariah Kipp and Sara Feagley joining Emily Weimer in the discus, while Olivia Mathews and Saoirse Phillips backed Mac Miller in the triple jump. Those full-event sweeps helped Northern Lebanon survive the close team battle.

Lancaster Catholic was led by Miriam Stefanow, who won both the 100m and 200m, while Caitlin Reynolds swept the 800m and 1600m. The Crusaders also got wins from Gerlyn Reyes in the Long Jump, Lauren Lucas in the Shot Put, Amia Walker in the High Jump, and both the 4×100 Relay and 4×800 Relay teams, which kept the meet tight all afternoon.

Boys Recap: Lancaster Catholic 77, Northern Lebanon 73

Northern Lebanon’s boys were right there to the end, but Lancaster Catholic managed to hold off the Vikings by just four points in one of the tighter meets Northern Lebanon has seen this spring.

The Vikings piled up points in the field events and distance races. Cody Leedy won the Long Jump and added a runner-up in High Jump. Connor Troxell won the Shot Put and took second in Discus, while Evan Snyder captured the Triple Jump. Luke Hentz swept the 800m and 1600m, and Thaddeus Raub added another first in the 3200m.

Northern Lebanon also produced a handful of event sweeps that kept the pressure on all meet long. The Vikings went 1-2-3 in the High Jump behind Johnny Hilton, Cody Leedy, and Jason Bishop, and they also swept the Triple Jump with Evan Snyder, Levi Bucks, and Kaiden Killian. Those big field-event totals, along with runner-up finishes from Brady Ryan in both the 100m and 200m and Kael Erdman in the Javelin, helped keep Northern Lebanon within striking distance.

Lancaster Catholic answered with sprint and relay strength that ultimately proved decisive. Brandon Way won the 100m, Christopher Baumler took the 200m, Carson Spangler won the 400m, Julian Montijo swept the hurdles, and the Crusaders also captured the 4×100 Relay, 4×400 Relay, and 4×800 Relay.
