Cedar Crest Thumps Red Tornado for Third Straight Win
A resurgent Cedar Crest baseball squad took to the road on Monday looking for its third straight victory, and the Falcons wasted little time taking control. Behind a big offensive day and dominant work on the mound, Cedar Crest cruised past the Red Tornado 19-0 in a game that lasted five innings.
Carson DiBiaso got the Falcons started in the 1st with an RBI single, then Cedar Crest added three more runs in the 2nd to begin creating separation. Skyler Sherman doubled to left to drive in a run, Brayden Dorshimer followed with an RBI single, and Lucas Schreier doubled home another as the Falcons moved in front 4-0.
The Falcons kept pouring it on in the 3rd. Dorshimer singled in a run, Landon Yeingst added an RBI single, and Cedar Crest also took advantage of an error that brought home two more. Schreier capped the inning with another RBI knock as the lead swelled to 9-0.
After adding three more runs in the 4th, Cedar Crest broke it open for good in the 5th with a seven-run outburst. Chase Ruhl singled in a run, a pair of errors helped two more score, Mason Copenhaver doubled home two, Schreier added a sacrifice fly, and Isaac Kreider chipped in an RBI single.
Mason Cevette earned the win on the mound, striking out eight over four shutout innings while allowing just two hits and no walks. DiBiaso handled the final inning in relief and also kept the Red Tornado off the board, giving up two hits while striking out two.
At the plate, Dorshimer went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, while Schreier also knocked in three. Ruhl, Sherman, DiBiaso, and Yeingst each had multiple hits as Cedar Crest piled up 16 hits in the win. Cevette also showed patience by drawing three walks, and the Falcons as a team worked six free passes, turned a double play, and played a clean defensive game without committing an error.
For the Red Tornado, Shanahan Padin, Andrew Carlisle, Fabian Hernandez, and Chris each had one hit.
Cedar Crest, now 6-3, will look for its fourth straight victory when it hosts Manheim Township on Wednesday.
