Northern Lebanon Outlasts Lebanon in Four-Set Battle

Thursday evening’s matchup at Northern Lebanon brought together two Lebanon County teams for a highly competitive contest, and it was the home-standing Vikings who came away with a four-set victory. Northern Lebanon earned the 3-1 win over Lebanon by scores of 27-25, 25-20, 22-25, and 26-24.

The opening set showed right away that neither side was going to give much. Northern Lebanon managed to survive a back-and-forth first set by a 27-25 margin, then carried that momentum into the second.

Lebanon continued to battle, but the Vikings were able to create just enough separation late to take the set 25-20 and move within one set of the match.

To its credit, Lebanon answered in the third. The Cedars stayed aggressive and extended the match with a 25-22 win, refusing to let Northern Lebanon run away with it. That pushed the match into another tight finish in the fourth, where both teams again traded points before the Vikings closed things out with a 26-24 decision.

Peyton Ream led Northern Lebanon with 22 kills and 11 digs, while Justin Gonzalez-Luna directed the offense with 38 assists. Carlos Polanco added 3 blocks, and Nathan Swank chipped in an ace for the Vikings.

For Lebanon, Julian Padillas finished with 9 kills and 5 blocks, Ledriel Velazquez-Bernard totaled 12 digs, Eury Filpo served up 2 aces, and Yaheniel Hernandez-Falcon handed out 45 assists.

Northern Lebanon is now 4-6 and will host Hershey on Monday. Lebanon is 3-6 and will host Manheim Central on Tuesday.
