Schreier’s Two Homers Power Cedar Crest Past Ephrata

After getting back in the win column with a victory over Hempfield on Monday, Cedar Crest was home again on  Wednesday looking to keep that momentum going. The Falcons did exactly that, riding a huge day from Lucas Schreier and a game-breaking 4th inning to an 11-4 win over Ephrata.

Schreier wasted no time making an impact, launching a solo home run in the bottom of the 1st to put Cedar Crest in front 1-0. Ephrata answered in the top of the 2nd when Camryn Simes tied the game with a solo shot to left, but the Falcons quickly regained the lead in the bottom half when Chase Ruhl delivered an RBI single to make it 2-1.

Ephrata briefly moved in front in the top of the 4th. After pushing across two runs in the inning, including an RBI single from Ethan Gockley, the Mounts grabbed a 3-2 lead and threatened to swing the game in their favor.

Instead, Cedar Crest responded with its biggest inning of the afternoon. The Falcons erupted for six runs in the bottom of the 4th to take control for good. Ruhl started the surge with a sacrifice fly, Chase Norris followed with a two-run single, Landon Yeingst added an RBI single, and then Schreier capped the inning by blasting his second home run of the day, a two-run shot to center that pushed the lead out to 8-3.

That was more than enough support for Cedar Crest’s pitching staff. Norris earned the win after working 4.1 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits while striking out six and walking four. Mason Copenhaver and Tyler Toscano each came on in relief and shut down Ephrata the rest of the way, helping the Falcons close out the victory.

Cedar Crest finished with nine hits, with Schreier, Carson DiBiaso, Yeingst, and Norris each collecting two. Schreier drove in four runs, while the Falcons also turned two double plays behind their pitchers.

Ephrata got two hits apiece from Hayden Mietelski, Simes, and Chase Prange, while Gockley drove in two runs.

Cedar Crest is now 5-3 and will look to make it three straight when it travels to McCaskey on Monday.
