Annville-Cleona Drops Road Game at Eastern York

Annville-Cleona opened its season with a win over Lebanon last Wednesday, but then had to wait nearly a week to get back on the diamond. The Dutchmen returned to action Tuesday with a road trip to face Eastern York, where the hosts used an early lead and a strong outing on the mound to claim a 7-1 victory. The box score shows Eastern York scored in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings while holding Annville-Cleona to 3 hits.

Eastern York grabbed control quickly by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st, then added 3 more in the 3rd to build separation. The visitors finally broke through in the top of the 5th for their lone run, but could not string together enough offense to mount a bigger push.

Eastern York finished with 7 hits and took advantage of 7 walks and 5 stolen bases in the win, while Annville-Cleona had 3 hits, 5 walks, and 3 stolen bases.

At the plate, Traian Dompier went 1-2 with a run scored, an RBI, and a walk to help lead the Dutchmen. Brody Keeneradded an RBI in his lone at-bat, while Max Ortwein finished 1-3 with a run scored. Zac Frentz helped create some pressure by drawing 2 walks and stealing a base, and Alex Shaffer also reached and stole a base.

On the mound, John Ditzler gave Annville-Cleona 2 innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 run, none earned, while walking 1 and striking out 1. Landon Gilley worked the final 4 innings and struck out 4. Eastern York was paced offensively by Quinn Bramble, who went 2-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI, a double, and 2 stolen bases, while Brock Adams drove in 3 runs.

Eastern York also got a strong performance from Blake Boyd, who worked 6.2 innings and allowed just 3 hits and 1 unearned run while striking out 8.

Annville-Cleona is now 1-1 and will be back in action Wednesday with a home game against Columbia to open Section 4 play.
