Cevette, DiBiaso Team Up to Blank Manheim Central

The Falcons headed to Manheim Central on Friday night for a game under the lights, looking to bounce back after coming up just short in a late rally against Cocalico. Cedar Crest responded with a strong effort, blanking the Barons 4-0 behind a combined shutout on the mound.

Cedar Crest broke through in the top of the 2nd. Landon Yeingst doubled to bring home the game’s first run and give the Falcons an early edge.

That was more than enough support for Cedar Crest’s pitching staff, which kept Manheim Central off the board all evening. Mason Cevette earned the win after throwing 5 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits while striking out 7 and walking 2.

Carson DiBiaso took care of the final 2 innings in relief, giving up no hits and no runs while striking out 1 and walking 2. DiBiaso recorded the final out on a groundout to lock down the shutout and finish off the bounce-back win for the Falcons.

Cedar Crest added insurance as the game moved along and finished with 4 runs on 8 hits. Isaac Kreider and Yeingst each collected 2 hits, while Skyler Sherman, DiBiaso, and Yeingst each drove in a run.

Manheim Central threatened at times with 4 hits and aggressive baserunning, stealing 5 bases in the game. Clint Groffled the Barons with 2 hits in 3 at-bats, while Cody Hess swiped 2 bases. Manheim Central also played a clean defensive game without committing an error.

Cedar Crest, now 3-1, will have a chance to test their mettle when they host perennial powerhouse Lampeter-Strasburg, currently 5-0, on Monday.
