Voting will remain open until Thursday at 10 pm.

While athletes can be nominated multiple weeks, the winners will be removed and updates will be provided as the season progresses.

While this may be a vote and emotions can run high, this is intended to bring attention to some of the best performances from our local student-athletes.

Nominations, which are made working with the schools, are listed below in alphabetical order.

Please read about each nominee, celebrate their accomplishment, and then go vote who you feel is most deserving of this week’s honor.

Female Nominees

Abby Ruth (ELCO / Sr.) – Basketball: Ruth helped define what it meant to be a team player all winter, doing the rebounding, assist, and hustle work that helped the Lady Raiders earn a spot in the District 3 Playoffs. Her steady effort showed again in ELCO’s hard-fought loss at Susquehannock in the first round of the District 3 5A tournament.

Kasey Weimer (Northern Lebanon / Sr.) – Basketball: In the District 3 Quarterfinals, Weimer powered Northern Lebanon to a 40-27 win over Susquenita, scoring 23 points while going 11-for-12 from the free-throw line. The victory earned the Lady Vikings a PIAA State Championship berth, and the senior—fresh off eclipsing 1,000 career points—continues to deliver in big moments. Through 24 games, Weimer is averaging 12.7 points per game, and over a nine-game stretch including the playoff win, she shot 86.4% at the line (51-for-59).

Laney Zimmerman (New Covenant / So.) – Basketball: In Friday night’s District 3 Quarterfinal win over Conestoga Christian, Zimmerman provided important support as the Flames worked to create separation. The sophomore scored 4 points, all at the free-throw line (4-for-6) in a tense first half, and added 8 rebounds along with a steal and an assist to help New Covenant advance.

Male Nominees

Tyler Detwiler (Palmyra / Sr.) – Wrestling: After years of setbacks, Detwiler broke through at the South Central AAA Regional Championships with a 4th-place finish at 139 pounds. He went 3-2 with wins that included a dominant tech fall, a major decision, and a hard-fought 14-13 decision to reach the podium. With the performance, Detwiler punched his ticket to the PIAA State Championship Tournament alongside teammates Elijah Foltz and Aaron Andrew.

Landon Graby (Northern Lebanon / So.) – Wrestling: At the District 3 AA Championships, the sophomore placed 7th at 189 pounds and earned his way into the Regional Championships as a wildcard qualifier. Graby went 3-2 on the day, collecting a medal and extending his season beyond what he initially believed was possible with only the top six automatically advancing. Now 23-21, he heads to Regionals alongside Vikings Sam Wolford and Connor Troxell.

Ashton Kriss (ELCO / Sr.) – Wrestling: Competing at the South Central AAA Regional Championships at 133 pounds, Kriss opened the tournament with three straight wins before eventually falling in the finals. His runner-up finish earned him a spot in the PIAA State Championship Tournament alongside teammates Klint Miller, Kane Kline, and Aleric Raihl. Kriss will take a 34-6 record into Hershey.

Blaine Leitz (Annville-Cleona / Jr.) – Wrestling: Wrestling at 189 pounds, Leitz placed 5th at the District 3 AA Championships with a 4-2 tournament that included a tech fall, a pin, a major decision, and a clutch 7-5 decision to stay alive on his way to the podium. The finish advances him to the Regional Championships, where he’ll compete alongside fellow Dutchman Oliver Funck. Leitz is now 36-9, and his next victory will be the 67th of his career.

Antonio Tirado (Cedar Crest / Jr.) – Basketball: In Cedar Crest’s first-round road win at Muhlenberg, Tirado stepped up when the game went to overtime (courtesy free throws from freshman Jayden Truss) and took over the extra session. The junior scored 9 of his 11 points in OT to lift the Falcons to the victory and punch their ticket to the PIAA State Championship Tournament. For the season, Tirado is second on the team in scoring at 10.6 points per game.
