Northern Lebanon 45, Annville-Cleona 36

In a game that was broadcast on LebCo Sports Live on Monday night, the Dutchmen traveled to Northern Lebanon to face a Vikings squad eager to avenge a one-point loss to Annville-Cleona back on December 9th.

The opening quarter was a defensive grind, with Annville’s zone slowing the Vikings early. After eight minutes, the score was tied 5-5, with James Garney accounting for all five Annville points, while a Kael Erdman three-pointer highlighted the scoring for the home team.

Offense picked up in the 2nd quarter, but the game remained tight. Northern Lebanon edged ahead 18-17 at halftime, using balanced scoring from five different players. Andrew Via led the Vikings with 5 points in the quarter, while Annville again leaned on Garney, who scored 5 more, and a three-pointer from John Ditzler.

The 3rd quarter stayed just as close, with Northern Lebanon adding only a single point to its lead. The Vikings got threes from Via and Bryce Martin, while Garney continued to pace Annville with 4 points in the frame.

The difference came in the 4th quarter. After three quarters of back-and-forth basketball, Northern Lebanon found separation behind Via, who scored 7 points in the final period to steer the Vikings to the win.

Via led Northern Lebanon with 15 points, including two three-pointers. Erdman also reached double figures with 12 points, knocking down a pair of threes.
For Annville-Cleona, Garney finished with 15 points, while Hudson Sellers added 9.

Northern Lebanon (6-8) will host Williams Valley on Wednesday.
Annville-Cleona (2-11) will travel to Millersburg on Tuesday evening.

The next LebCo Sports Live broadcast will take place next Monday, featuring a girls basketball matchup with Hempfield visiting Palmyra in a non-league contest.

When Lebanon traveled to Lancaster on December 12th, McCaskey sent the Cedars home with a 17-point loss. On Monday night, a much-improved Lebanon squad had a chance to show just how far it has come.

In the 1st quarter, the Cedars jumped out to a 16-14 lead behind Manny Martinez, who scored 8 points, and Noriah Jones, who added 6. Lebanon continued to build momentum in the 2nd quarter, extending the lead to 34-26 at halftime as Derek Franco chipped in 7 points to keep the offense balanced.

McCaskey began to push back in the 3rd quarter, trimming the deficit, but Lebanon still carried a five-point advantage into the final period. Jones added 8 more points in the frame, though the quarter also marked the beginning of a surge by McCaskey’s DeMere Salisbury, who would take over down the stretch.

In the 4th quarter, foul trouble and Salisbury’s hot hand shifted the game’s momentum. Salisbury poured in 11 points in the final eight minutes to lead the Red Tornado comeback and seal the victory.

Lebanon was led by Jones, who scored 23 points. Martinez and Franco each knocked down two three-pointers on their way to 19 and 18 points, respectively.
