Red Rose Playoffs – 2nd Round

C (10-0)    Cedar Crest 15, Ephrata 6

The Falcon “C” Team entered the Red Rose League Playoffs with an unblemished, 9-0 record.  As the top seed, they were tasked with taking on Ephrata in the 1st Round.  After a scoreless 1st quarter, quarterback Tate Speraw found Torrence Hubbard on a 28-yard touchdown pass to give the Falcons the lead in the 2nd quarter.  The lead expanded to 8-0 when the two connected again for the two-point conversion.  They added to the lead when Speraw hit Greg Harris on a 55-yard strike on the first play of the 2nd half.  A successful run by Jaden Rosenthal on the PAT gave the Falcons a 15-0 advantage.  Ephrata fought back in the 4th quarter with a touchdown of their own, but it was too little, too late. The Falcons moved to 10-0 on the season with this 15-6 win.  A large part of the win came down to the play of the Offensive and Defensive lines, which controlled the line of scrimmage.  The Defense only gave up one play that went for over 6 yards.

Up Next: The Falcons will take on Lampeter-Strasburg in the 2nd Round of the Red Rose Playoffs.  The action will take place on Saturday, 3 pm at Manor Middle School.

BAYFL Championship Game

Midget (6-2)      Myerstown 27, Oley Valley 13

After a close 19-18 win over Schuylkill Valley, the Myerstown Midgets earned their spot in the Berks Area Youth Football League Championship.  This was the fourth straight year that Myerstown appeared in the finals, but the title had slipped through their fingers in the previous attempts to bring home the championship.  In this year’s edition, they were hoping to change their fortune when they matched up against the Oley Valley Lynx at Hamburg High School on Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers struck first, taking the opening possession down the field for a score. A successful PAT made it 7-0.  Oley Valley quickly responded to tie it up at 7-7.  However, Myerstown’s offense could not be stopped, and they scored two more times before halftime.

Coming out of halftime leading 20-7, Panthers continued to keep up the pressure on Oley Valley.  The game ended with a 27-13 Myerstown victory.

Congratulations to all of the players, coaches, and staff on their first BAYFL championship!
