District 3 Power Rankings: Playoff Picture Beginning to Take Shape

With October here and the regular season quickly moving toward its final stretch, the District 3 Power Rankings are becoming increasingly important for Lebanon County teams. Some are comfortably positioned for postseason opportunities, while others find themselves right on the cutoff or needing a strong finish to work their way into the field.

One of the county’s strongest positions continues to belong to Palmyra field hockey, which remains No. 1 in the District 3 Class 2A rankings. The Cougars have yet to lose this season and continue to put themselves in position for a favorable postseason path.

There was also significant movement from ELCO girls soccer. After sitting 25th a week ago, the Raiders surged all the way to No. 15 in Class 3A, moving inside the 16-team qualifying field. With only a handful of contests remaining, every result becomes increasingly important.

Northern Lebanon girls volleyball also strengthened its postseason position, climbing from third to second in Class 4A. The Vikings are joined by ELCO, currently fourth, giving Lebanon County two teams sitting comfortably inside the eight-team 4A field.

Several teams, however, are sitting much closer to the bubble. Northern Lebanon football is currently 12th in Class 4A, two spots outside a 10-team playoff field, while Palmyra football slipped to 16th in Class 5A, where 12 teams qualify. Annville-Cleona football also dropped from third to sixth in Class 3A, leaving the Dutchmen just outside the four-team postseason field.

There are similar races developing elsewhere. Palmyra boys soccer climbed four positions to 14th in Class 3A and is now inside the 16-team qualifying field, while ELCO boys soccer currently occupies the final qualifying position at No. 16. Cedar Crest girls soccer is another team sitting directly on the line, checking in at No. 16 in Class 4A.

With schedules shrinking and the postseason picture changing after virtually every result, there is still plenty that can shift over the coming weeks.

Below, check out the complete District 3 Power Rankings snapshot for every Lebanon County team, including current records, rankings, classifications, contests remaining and postseason qualifying cutoffs.
