Susie Hoffman
As the Cedar Crest Falcons made their way to the Lancaster Lebanon League Girls Soccer Championship, it was a Quarterfinals performance against Lancaster Catholic on October 12th that stole the show. In the game, Susie Hoffman scored the opening goal and later added an assist as the Lady Falcons went on to win 3-1. Earlier in the week, the senior midfielder assisted on a goal in the Crest victory over Conestoga Valley. It was these performances, along with Hoffman’s overall contributions to Cedar Crest this season, that earned her the admiration of the LebCoSports.com voters, who chose her as the LebCo Female Athlete of the Week.
About her performance, Hoffman pointed to the overall culture of the Cedar Crest Girls Soccer Team, which has pushed them to a 15-3-2 record as they are now battling in the District 3 Playoffs. She said, “To be honest, it was really more of the same. As a team, we work hard, and everyone plays hard. The big difference was that I got some scoring opportunities that I don’t usually get as a holding mid. I was just fortunate to find the back of the net.”
When asked, Head Coach Scott Steffen spoke highly of Hoffman, stating, “Susie has been a leader on and off the field for us all year and has been a constant presence winning balls in the midfield. She defends hard and is a catalyst in getting our attack started.”
For those who know Hoffman, the coach’s praise is not a surprise. Hoffman herself summed up her goals by saying, “My goal has always been the same: to compete. Compete in every game and compete in every play. I wanted to leave everything out on the field for my last season.” This mentality has allowed her play at midfield to elevate the level of play by the Lady Falcons throughout the season.
For Hoffman, competition is something that is ingrained in her. She lists soccer and basketball as her main sports but has also earned varsity letters in softball, lacrosse, and track. This commitment to sports has been made possible by her parents, both of whom were athletes growing up, with her mother being a two-sport collegiate athlete. She credits the support of her parents for her success.
Beyond her family, Hoffman credits her teammates for their support in making her a better player and overall person. She also recognized the influence of her varsity soccer coaches, along with her club coach, Nate Stroik, and Cedar Crest Girls Basketball Coach, Ashli Shay.
When not on the athletic field, Hoffman is still competing by working on her academics or is spending time supporting her fellow student-athletes. As a student section leader of Falcon Nation, she is usually leading many of the chants. This style of support began when she was a cheerleader at the peewee football level.
After Hoffman graduates next Spring, she plans to attend a four-year university to major in computer science.
While her college search will continue, Hoffman’s main focus right now is Saturday’s District 3 Quarterfinal matchup against Central Dauphin. We wish Hoffman and her teammates all the best as they look to extend their season into November.
