Avery Lechleitner

On Saturday, September 7th, the Cedar Crest Field Hockey Team defeated Garden Spot for their first victory of the season. Sophomore Avery Lechleitner both of the goals for the Falcons as they secured the 2-0 win. In the three games that Cedar Crest played during the week, the midfielder was exceptional, which resulted in registering an assist against Lampeter-Strasburg, a tough 3-2 loss. Additionally, Lechleitner stepped up to take a larger role on the defensive end, sacrificing some of her offense to help the team. As a result of her scoring and her team-centered mentality, Lechleitner was voted LebCo Female Athlete of the Week.

In identifying Lechleitner as a team-first player, look no further than this quote when asked to describe her performance: “My team has been working really hard on offensive and defensive corners. Every player on the field is doing their job while giving 100%.”

How does Lechleitner see herself fitting in with the goals of the team? She told LebCoSports.com that she wants to “improve as a player and be a good teammate. I want to be able to make an impact on the team and be a leader for my team.”
When it comes to crediting others for her success, Lechleitner praised her coaches, Coach Arnold and Coach Shirey, for “their constant encouragement” and “teaching”. She also wanted to take a moment to recognize senior captain Ava Schreier for being “a positive role model both on and off the field” and for being someone who “always brings the energy.”

When asked about Lechleitner, Coach Alicia Arnold had high praise, saying, “Avery is an elite multi-sport athlete who is so hungry to learn and grow her game. She is adored by her teammates and brings incredible energy to our team. She has been a starter since her freshman year. Avery can play anywhere on the field and is by far our most consistent player every game and practice. Always smiling, but absolutely don’t underestimate her relentless fight on the pitch!”

When it comes to playing other sports, Lechleitner also excels in Lacrosse, where she is a member of the Cedar Crest varsity team. She has set a goal to play lacrosse at the collegiate level. She benefits from the mentorship of her parents, who were both collegiate athletes at Lock Haven. Her father played football, and her mother competed in lacrosse.

When Lechleitner is not playing school sports, she is playing club lacrosse for Xtreme, serving as a youth lacrosse official, or going to sporting events to support her friends.

At this point of the season, Lechleitner leads Cedar Crest in points with three goals and two assists. She is a key member of a young core that will lead the Falcons to new heights in the coming years.

We congratulate Avery on this honor and wish her and her teammates all the best the rest of this season and beyond.
