Alaina Miller
On Saturday, August 24th, the Cedar Crest Girls Soccer Team got things started with an exciting 2-1 victory over Cocalico. Down 1-0 early, the Falcon’s Alaina Miller netted two goals assisted by Cameron Blouch and Addie Achenbach to give the home team the victory. Following her performance, the senior striker was voted as the LebCo Female Athlete of the Week.
In terms of the game, Miller credited the total team effort, telling LebCoSports.com, “We came out a bit slow, but got it together in the 2nd half and connected the ball well. Everyone gave full effort, and that was great to see.”
Miller sees describes her role on the team as, “Put simply, our goal is to score goals and win, and I try my best to create opportunities for my teammates and myself.”
She is doing an excellent job of meeting that goal. Through the three games the Falcons have played (Record: 2-1), Miller has tallied 3 goals and 2 assists. She leads Cedar Crest in both categories.
Miller hopes to continue to keep things rolling in the right direction, setting season goals to retain the Ritter-Hoffman Cup in their annual showdown with ELCO (pictured above with the trophy following last year’s victory) and to advance into the postseason.
About Miller, Cedar Crest Head Coach Scott Steffen said, “Alaina has been a productive player for us for 4 years. She has grown into a leader this year, and we look forward to what she brings to this team this season.”
Her productivity and leadership during the regular season follow her personal challenges after healing from a broken fibula sustained earlier this year. Miller is now the proud owner of eight screws and a plate in her leg. However, it has not slowed her down. In fact, she proudly states that she can still do a backflip.
Miller is very thankful to her family for their support. This includes her older sister, Abrielle, who, as a freshman, led Lebanon Valley College’s Women’s Soccer Team in goals in 2023.
Alaina hopes to follow in Abrielle’s footsteps by playing at the collegiate level. Ever the student-athlete, the younger Miller plans to study either occupational therapy or enter a physician’s assistant program.
With a full twenty-game regular season, there is still plenty of Soccer left to be played this season. We will be watching intently to see just how far Miller’s Falcons can push it. We wish Alaina and all of her teammates the best of luck as they continue their 2024 campaign.
