Waldron Strikes Gold as Palmyra Piles Up Medals at Pan-Ram Invitational

After a cool start gave way to more comfortable spring weather, Saturday’s 37th annual Pan-Ram Invitational at Central Dauphin brought together a deep field for one of the Mid-Penn’s signature meets. With the top 8 finishers in each event earning medals, Palmyra turned in a strong showing, collecting 11 medals across the girls and boys competitions.

Girls Results

Palmyra’s girls were led by junior Maddy Waldron, who delivered the Cougars’ lone event title of the day by winning the 200m in 25.13. Waldron also placed 4th in the 100m finals in 12.42, giving her two individual medals against a loaded field. She also added two medals in the relays, giving her a maximum haul of four medals during the day of competition.

The Cougars also made plenty of noise in the relays. Palmyra’s 4×400 team of Emily Bearinger, Allie Fink, Ella Stuart, and Maddy Waldron earned silver in 4:09.13, while the 4×100 relay of Allie Fink, Emily Bearinger, Cala Hipple, and Maddy Waldron placed 5th in 50.63. In the 4×800 relay, Chelsea Herr, Laura Reese, Olivia Yorty, and Katie Dromgoole added another medal with a 5th-place finish in 10:55.25.

Palmyra also got strong work from its distance group. Amber McCurdy finished 10th in the 1600m in 5:32.65 and 12th in the 800m in 2:31.79, while Chelsea Herr added a 16th-place run in the 800m in 2:34.39. Olivia Yorty was 16th in the 1600m in 5:54.41, and Jericho Church picked up a win in the girls novice 3200m with a time of 12:42.13.

In the field events, Shayla Carl placed 13th in the Javelin with a throw of 94’8″. Isabella Owens contributed in both horizontal jumps, finishing 16th in the Long Jump at 14’2.25″ and 17th in the Triple Jump at 31’9.5″. Caleigha Mull also competed in the High Jump, while Mackenzie Schopp added a Shot Put mark of 24’0.25″.

Boys Results

Palmyra’s boys were led by their distance crew, which accounted for some of the team’s biggest finishes of the day. The Cougars’ 4×800 relay of Nathan Keiner, Landyn Rose, Josh Miller, and Cornelius Cummings earned silver in 8:23.82, while Cornelius Cummings and Josh Miller both medaled in the 1600m. Cummings placed 5th in 4:36.79 and Miller followed in 8th in 4:40.35.

Miller also added a 9th-place finish in the 3200m in 10:15.61, just missing another medal, while Gavin Bullard was 21st in 10:45.57. In the 800m, Landyn Rose placed 14th in 2:06.01 and Nathan Keiner was 15th in 2:06.23.

Palmyra’s sprinters also turned in a strong day. Travis McDannell made the 100m final and placed 7th in 11.24 after running 11.25 in the prelims. He followed that up with a 9th-place finish in the 200m in 22.89. Aaron Villafane also ran well, placing 12th in the 100m prelims in 11.32 and 16th in the 200m in 23.29. The Cougars’ 4×100 relay of Chris Campisano, Connor Anderson, Aaron Villafane, and Travis McDannell added another medal with a 5th-place finish in 44.58.

In the field events, Josh Tshudy earned a medal in the Discus with an 8th-place throw of 132’0″. Jake Schelhorn placed 19th in the Javelin at 134’8″ and 27th in the Discus at 110’9″. Dacian Hutchinson competed in both hurdle races, finishing 19th in the 110m Hurdles prelims in 17.98 and 20th in the 300m Hurdles in 45.66. Evan Mosser cleared 5’8″ in the High Jump, while Lane Lehman and Emerson Bucks both cleared 10’6″ in the Pole Vault.

What’s next?

Palmyra will now have a week off from competition before returning to action on April 21st against Milton Hershey.
